ACLU Sues Wagner School Over Drug Search
The American Civil Liberties Union has filed a lawsuit against the Wagner School Board on behalf of 17 students.
According to the lawsuit, students at Wagner were confined to their classrooms for several hours twice in May while a German shepherd sniffed each student for drugs. Students as young as five reportedly were told to put their hands on their desks, avoid looking at the dog and not make any sudden movements, or the dog would bite them.
The complaint says the dog got loose in a kindergarten classroom and chased students around the room. The ACLU calls the searches ludicrous and says they violated the students' constitutional rights against unreasonable searches.

Haven't you heard, the need to keep drugs out of school outweighs the constitutional rights of the students. Next week they get to pee in a cup.

It's insane - if they want to search the rooms for drugs, sure, just do it after hours :)

"What have you got there Fido? Ohhh. You smell something? Slowly, and I mean slowly bitch, pass me that Elmo lunchbox... I SAID SLOWLY!!... Save the tears, you little druggie and hand me the lunchbox... DON'T MOVE! I SAID DON'T MOVE!! (bam!) (bam!) I WARNED YOU! Now let's see inside that bag... It's OK Chief... just a poppy seed roll... Welcome to Future Felons of America, children. We really don't expect to find drugs on you, but this is all a part of conditioning you for the evolving American police state.
Drop your pants so that Officer Jellyfinger here can give you a cavity search.
Just say no to cocaine, but be sure to take the ritalin the school nurse gives you.
Nevermind that ritalin and cocaine are so similar in effect that when scientists ground ritalin into a powder and gave it to cocaine addicts, the coke heads couldn't tell the difference.
Keep your kids out of government schools, folks. Home schooling is looking better all the time.

Yes, it is insane for 5 year-olds to be searched. As a parent I would also have an issue with a dangerous dog not being under control.
I don't know anything about the area where this happened, but could it be possible that a child or a group of children were suspected of being used by a dealer to carry? Just a thought.

Well the really frightening thing is that time and time again the SC has ruled that public school students don't really have any rights. So this doesn't surprise me.
To: chance33_98
Absolutely ludicrous. If this report is accurate, the officers and school administrators who allowed it to happen should be arrested for child endangerment.

Any time that I agree with the ACLU, I find myself cringing. This organization has it's hands in 99% of the stuff that I disagree with them on, but this well it's just a completely different situation. Anybody that's for this kind of treatment of our children needs a size 13 boot kicked up their @ss.!

I know what the Supreme court did but this policy is still insane.

A good cop wouldn't need a drug dog.
The cop would be able to legally search any suspect who was involved in criminal behavior himself.
And if he wasn't involved in criminal behavior, the good cop would know he has no business harassing the citizen.
