if we would just legalize drugs... i could not disagree with you more. if we do legalize drugs, then more people will use drugs, and even if the price drops, the total money spent on drugs will increase.
the fact is that several terrorist organizations control land that grows some of the best drugs in the world (e.g. opium) and their peasant labor is cheap, dirt cheap. we could not begin to compete in the united states with these creeps if we did legalize drugs, both on price and on quality. the extra money spent in the now legal drug trafficking will provide even more funds to the terrorists.
besides being morally incorrect, your argument is also not economically sound.

If drugs are sold at CBS they ain't being sold by Al Qaeda. Saudi Oil is Bin Laden's major source of financing anyway thats why I think we should go in and destroy everything and everyone not related to extracting oil and make the place a colony.

My statement is economically sound. If drugs were legal, there would be a lot more people growing them all over the world. The supply would be way higher than demand which would make them dirt cheap. It would be like buying a pound of flour or a bag of rice. Economics 101.

Marijuana, for example can grow wild in just about all of the lower 48. It would cost next to nothing. (Which is why the 'let the government tax it' argument is invalid -- if I can grow my own, why buy taxed?)
Anyway, you'd most likely have some small regional farms and possibly some rather large ones in obscure places (due to the stigma.)
Although more people may use it (higher availability, no pun intended) the cost would be close to zero. If I could grow beer for free in my yard, do you think I'd charge my friends? Would I charge myself? Why would I sell it and risk liability? Seriously.

We are talking about Afghanistan. It's climate is very similar to our Mountains in the Mid-West. Last time I checked, that's free land.

It's not like they're giving us a run at corn production. I think we could smoke them in any area of agriculture. Pun intended.
Peace.
