This is a big problem where I'm going to school. Hospital policy is one person per 50lbs to move these patients - now you do the math. It's especially difficult as (please don't flame me ladies) the nursing profession is still mostly made up of the "weaker" sex. The hospital is looking into implementing a professional "lifting team," which would help and free up nurses for other more important duties. One more factor in the rising cost of health care.

There are people with real health problems that cause obesity, but for he most part it is laziness and lack of self control. Most of these people have no one to blame but themselves, and I hate to hear them cry about it.

I don't know if that's the reason. I have a friend who became very heavy and I know from her childhood there were issues with food that I think caused it. Food was given as a reward and I think associated with parental love. I see people filling their cupboards with all kinds of junk food and soft drinks and raising their kids to think those are foods.

I think losing 10 pounds is hard enough but I don't know how someone finds the self control to lose 200 pounds.

Wonderful! And long overdue. I've been long advocating "lifting treams" or at least hiring some off season local high school athletes to help the nurses and their aides with lifting and transfering these patients. I treat these nurses injuries, and Lord knows, the workers comp bills add up, not to mention their time away from work.

I hope what is happening at your hospital will start a trend nationwide.
