NJ - INFANT INCINERATED
Associated Press - breaking on the wire | July 29, 2002

Posted on 07/29/2002 12:25:52 PM PDT by NYer

MOUNT HOLLY, N.J. (AP) _ A couple charged with beating their baby to death then burning the body in a fireplace are to return to Burlington County to face murder charges this week, authorities said.

Jessica Morgan and Kevin Abrahams were arrested July 16 in Kissimmee, Fla. Both are charged with murder. They did not fight extradition to New Jersey. Officials tracked them to Florida about a month after they left New Jersey. The charred remains of their infant son Sage Taylor Abrahams-Morgan, were found June 21 in the Burlington City home where the couple had lived.

Burlington County authorities said Abrahams beat the child, who would have turned 1 in August, while Morgan did nothing before leaving the boy in his crib to die. The couple then burned the body in the fireplace of the home where friend Asa Paris had let them stay rent-free, officials said. Burned remains were found in a box in a closet of the couple's bedroom. Officials say the boy was most likely killed during April.

Morgan, 20, was to be flown back Monday night and taken to the Burlington County women's jail, said Burlington County First Assistant Prosecutor Raymond E. Milavsky. The former aspiring dancer from Toms River is being held on $350,000 bail. She was scheduled to make her first court appearance Tuesday.

Abrahams, 25, was to be brought back Tuesday with a court appearance scheduled for Wednesday. His bail was set at $750,000. Citing security concerns, Burlington County First Assistant Prosecutor Raymond E. Milavsky would not say exactly when the suspects would be returned _ or whether they would be flown on a commercial or charter plane.

Prosecutors in Florida dropped drug charges against the couple. The next legal step for the prosecutor's office is presenting the case to a Burlington County grand jury. Milavsky said he expects to do that in the fall.

Burlington County Prosecutor Robert D. Bernardi said the two could be eligible for the death penalty if convicted, but he said he has not yet decided whether to seek the death penalty against one or both.

Another woman, Barbara Johnson, 25, of Burlington City, is facing charges that she helped the couple avoid apprehension. She traveled with them to Florida.

At least the little baby's body only burned for a few minutes.

These f**kers are going to get to burn forever.

(Not that drugs had anything to do with this. We want them legalized, you know.) </sarcasm>

Seeing as this crime took place in New Jersey, maybe it will be the casual pleasure of the distinguished Professor of Bioethics at Princeton University, Peter Singer, to appear as a witness for the defense?

I could kill this couple in a most horrible fashion personally and then go home play with my kids, eat a nice supper, watch a video, make love to my wife, and sleep a wonderfully restful sleep.

Unfortunately in NJ, she'll probably cop to life or less to rat on him. He may get the DP if NJ has it. In any event, it will be far less than they merit.

What the both of them deserve is general population in the prison system with the warden telling all of their fellow inmates the reason for their incarceration.

Why in the world do pop up on all the child murder threads saying "ritual?" Do you mean satanic rituals? It's a topic I'm intested in. I'd like to know more about what you're thinking...freemail OK or answer on the thread, please.

Not a chance. The individual killed was a baby. In the Blue Zone, that barely counts as killing at all. Perhaps the couple could do a few hours of community service work, like counseling new parents. Isn't that what happened to those charming kids from Delaware who bashed their baby to death on the motel-room furniture?

"Poor little baby."

No kiddin. No defenseless baby deserves "parents" like this. If the parents do not manage to trip any triggers in the child-protection system (with all its many, many flaws) then nothing is done until after the poor child turns up either in dreadful shape in an ER or dead. It's brutal. Really makes me sick.

Death penalty? Go for it!

But it will never happen. These people will get off, if not scot free, pretty close to it. When we start talking about the death of infants, we start getting too close to that most sacred of all media sacraments, abortion. So we back off...

See, the world is not getting worse.

This sort of thing happened every day in the 1940s.

It's just that we have better news coverage of this sort of thing today.

This has nothing to do with morality, the disregard Americans have for lives of infants and fetuses, and it certainly has nothing to do with the fact that we are no longer a religious nation.

No, it is just because we get better news coverage today.

This sort of crime has always been a daily occurrence in modern societies.

I give up. You ignore my agreement about the moral decay in society and put words in my mouth. Then you continue to point to moral decay as a direct cause of this evil act. Liberals blame society, conservatives blame the individual. You act as if evil did not exist prior to abortion being legalized.

I was going to say on the other thread that you were just waiting with baited breath for the next example of evil to occur just so you can proudly proclaim you were somehow right. Gee what a suprise to see you standing tall upon your high horse. I think you have reached a new level of self righteous indignity wrapped in persecution complex. Bravo.

And please remember FR rules regarding dragging arguments from thread to thread, freepmail me if you wish to continue.

We do indeed kill babies like a national pastime.

From the moment we legalized abortion, ALL respect for human life was lost. We now talk in terms of using human embryos for gene therapy. Babies may legally be aborted right up until the time they pass through the birth canal ... why not right afterwards? would seem to be the modern mindset. I recently read of a group that wants to extend abortion to after birth. Yes, that's right, parents may decide to terminate their child up until 3 months following their live birth. Naturally, this concept will be couched in the usual terms .... "those born with a life-threatening disease" or "born too soon" or "born too late" or whatever legal jargon is fashionable at the time.

Thanks. Your response was a relief.

I sometimes wonder if there's even a handful of FReepers who ever employ their memory to retrieve an old story so they can add it to whatever new one currently claims their attention -- and thereby get really concerned about the looming threat.

Singer and his ilk foster thinking that leads to awful crimes such as this one. Too few FReepers pay enough attention to monster-makers like Singer -- and to what ought be the principle, overarching issue -- and instead cluck and moan over each single new attrocity.

Come tomorrow, will they moan a little less because it will have become more commonplace? The Singers of this world are laying the groundwork for when that is so. Death Cultivation continues its increase unfettered.

I don't see why everyone is insisting on this couple's exercise of reproductive freedom. The House may try to ban the beat-and-barbeque method of abortion but the Senate will surely never bring the bill up for debate.

We need to keep law enforcement out of people's personal, private decisions. You can't legislate morality, you know.

Shalom.

Liberals blame society, conservatives blame the individual.

You are not quite correct. Liberals blame society, libertarians blame the individual. Conservatives recognize that there is a link between a person and society and work in an arena that touches on both.

Shalom.
