well this judge just screwed up
stated her sentence took into account his "antics" in court
antics do not increase sentencing....this will be SUCCESSFULLY appealed in my opinion

The law for the crimes he committed does not specify that he his "antics" in court can allow her to sentence him for more than she would have. He can clearly show a judicial bias against him by using that statement.

This is unbelievable. He hasn't done anything worse than most of the rest of the congress critters have done. He must have really made somebody mad.

As I understand Traficant can run again IF he is to do his time in Ohio, but he cannot run if he is sent to some other state.
Where is he supposed to do his 8 years?

The moral of the story:
Don't mess with the IRS.
They will get you.

I agree totally. My first response when I heard this was: Wait a minute. He wasn't charged with that offense. Guess the judge is taking her inability to control her court room out on the defendent.

Eight years? That's only four terms in Congress.

(07-30) 09:48 PDT CLEVELAND (AP) --
James A. Traficant Jr., the maverick Democrat convicted of corruption charges and then kicked out of the U.S. House, was sentenced Tuesday to eight years in prison for accepting bribes and kickbacks.
Defiant throughout his trial and ethics hearings, he earlier had filed to run for a 10th term in November as an independent, despite the threat of imprisonment and expulsion.

Good riddance. Now the GOP can get to work filling that seat with a Republican who won't be a public embarrassment.
