Former U.S. president Bill Clinton said yesterday the murder of a man outside a pizza parlour is proof anti-Semitism is on the rise in North America.
David Rosenzweig, 48, father of six, was stabbed July 14 while helping his son with a flat tire on Bathurst St.
"He was killed not over a land dispute or a car, but because he was an Orthodox Jew," Clinton said.
Clinton addressed 350 supporters of the Toronto Hadassah-WIZO children's charity at a $1,000-a-plate fundraiser at the Markham mansion of Allan Fenwick.
Clinton delighted the crowd by playing sax with the band before dinner and telling them that "If the Iraqi army crossed the Jordan River, I would personally grab a rifle and fight, and die."
The 56-year-old former president, popular on the speaking circuit, reportedly earns $125,000 US per appearance.
Christopher Steven McBride, 20, faces a first-degree murder charge in Rosenzweig's death, which police have not deemed a hate crime. B'Nai Brith, which has reported 96 anti-Semitic incidents in Toronto in the first half of 2002, maintains the murder was motivated by hate.

"If the Iraqi army crossed the Jordan River, I would personally grab a rifle and fight, and die."
Did he really say that? Is this a satire piece, or is his brain rotting away?

First, where is his proof that the murder was motivated by "hate"? Second, he certainly is getting desperate to appear as if he is patriotic. Military-hating scum.

I'll settle for that last one, Slick.

I am surprised that Clinton didn't make it to the mine over the weekend to let us all know how much pain he was feeling in advance of the outstanding ending to a story America will be happy about for a long time.

I am too. I am surprised he didn't get up there and tell us how much safer miners were when HE was President.

"If the Iraqi army crossed the Jordan River, I would personally grab a rifle and fight, and die."I can't even begin to try and fathom that remark!

Yes, I heard about the Cuban defectors in Toronto yesterday, believe it or not....on CBS radio news. They said that although the group had been accompanied by "Cuban security agents", they were "spirited away" during the mass. At the time I heard the report, I thought, it was a good thing this didn't happen in the US, when clinton was president. He'd have had Reno hunt them down and throw them back.
To: mickie
He can't. He craves the limelight. Look at me...look at me. Very pitiful.
To: cubreporter
He didn't want to fight to defend this country, why would he fight to defend Israel. Puh-lease. The "man" cannot stop lying.

"If the Iraqi army crossed the Jordan River, I would personally grab a rifle and fight, and die."
I'd grab a rifle and kill the enemy. Since Clinton has no experience in the matter, he would make such a mistake.

"If the Iraqi army crossed the Jordan River, I would personally grab a rifle and fight, and die." Something he adamantly refused to do for the U.S. Will he never just go away?

Too bad someone in the audience didn't stand up and say, "Mr. Clinton, your concern for Israel is commendable. But I wonder why you didn't show a similar concern for your own country when your local draft board tried to induct you back in the sixties."
