Strike Images, Maps, Targets, Past Maps and Targets, Links
As Sec Rumsfeld said, it is very unlikely that Iraq will submit to the tough inspections needed.
So, here is background for the possible response that gossip says won't come until next year.

This is an impressive post. As far as the Sabre Arch monument goes... it's a target of questionable military importance, but Saddam designed it personally, so I hope it gets hit.

Great maps and photos of potential targets, D! Bookmarking this for future reference.

but Saddam designed it personally, so I hope it gets hit. Really?
I always thought that was the ugliest thing I'd ever seen, designed by man or beast.
About average second grade level, in any real country.
To make it crystal clear, about age 7.

Really? Yup, it was detailed in a special on Desert Storm up here in Canada. It's a monument to the Iraqi "victory" against Iran. All of the steel for the monument is from captured Iranian helmets (and possibly other equipment); and the arms are modeled after Saddam's.
anyone heard back from a anyservicemember? I sent some emails several months ago, but didn't hear anything. So I sent some more just now. I'm sure just getting some messages is great for some of them.

I'm with you. It's ugly. It has to go. As long as we're going to be tidying-up the place, we might as well take out the biggest eyesore in town. (After Saddam himself, of course.)

Cool photos! Thanks Diogenesis! We must have a ton of surveillance info on Iraq. We've been collecting it for the last 40 years.

My first target is those crossed sabers. Drop those suckers ! The cruise missiles will take out power and command and control. The stealths hit the key buildings and barracks of the Army and Air Force. Then the BUFs come in with the JDAMs and "clean the clock"!
To: Diogenesis
Can't wait to see pictures from those missles with cameras mounted on the front of them. Saddam sucking on a stogie, looking out his bay window, as a missle enters his field of vision then, kabbbbooommmmmmm!!!!!!!

Pictures of bombed out buildings makes me drool on the keys too. But are we ready for the blowback?
CIA Analyst Richard N. Cooper, now at Harvard, says that oil prices went from $15 to $40 per barrel as a result of Desert Storm. This precipitated a recession in 1991, and it could happen again.
Maybe its best that we play war on FR, and let the economy improve. Wada ya say Sar-jint.

The price of oil zoomed up to nearly US$40 per barrel after the original invasion of Kuwait but well before Operation Desert Storm started. In fact, when Desert Storm started in January 1991 the price of oil actually dropped quite a bit because the world knew we're finally doing something about the Iraqi occupation of Kuwait.
