[history]
On Monday, this page expressed concern that the Senate Ethics Committee was preparing to whitewash serious misconduct charges against New Jersey Sen. Robert Torricelli. One of Mr. Torricelli's Senate Democratic colleagues, acting Chairman Daniel Inouye, had complained about serving on the ethics panel, and expressed a desire to abruptly conclude hearings into whether Mr. Torricelli had improperly accepted cash and gifts from a political contributor after hearing from one witness: Mr. Torricelli.

You really have to wonder, why there wasn't a huge stink raised by the Republicans on the committee..
Could it be that too many "honorable" Senators could not stand the light of day on their own behavior --- were they threatened?
How can one of our most senior LAWMAKERS be allowed to keep his position after such blantant violations of trust.
A Pox on their asses! Gutless, corrupt bastards.

enlisting Democratic senators like Joseph Biden and Patrick Leahy to participate in a campaign to impugn the motives of the Justice DepartmentEnlisting the help of a plagiarist and a traitor is pathetic, Tommy, but if the shoe fits ...

This whole WT editorial is moronic. On one hand, the writer tells us the paper had expressed fear that there would be a whitewash and a delay on the part of the ethics committee.
Now the editorial expresses servile gratitude that, goody, there was actually no delay on the whitewash.
So.....congratulations all around on the whitewash, I guess.

The Republicans have raised a stink, but you'll never hear about it because the press won't cover it. The press won't cover anything that shines a light on Democrat corruption. They're too busy trying to tie Enron to Bush.

It might also be that the Pubbies got exactly what they wanted - an even more wounded incumbent in a state the Dems can't afford to lose.

How long are we going to tolerate these politicians of both parties. They have placed themselves above the law and no longer have the will of the people as their guide, just what will get themselves and their party the power they think they deserve. Elections are bought openly, graft and corruption flanted, and they know they will get away with it as long as they thwow some bones to the great unwashed, unededucated masses that could care less about the fate of our country. Political parties, both Republican and Democrate, will destroy this nation, we should scrap the concept and simply vote the person that best represents the will of the people, without having to support any party. Toricelli illegally accepted gifts and cash from a former political supporter. Among the gifts were a Rolex watch, Tiffany cuff links, a television set, earrings for a former girlfriend, an area rug and tens of thousands of dollars in cash for official trips, vacations and shopping.Packwood played kissy-face and had to go. Torricelli takes bribes and is good to go.
This smells - badly...

...why there wasn't a huge stink raised by the Republicans on the committee...I heard today that Torricelli testified to an empty room. There were no Senators present - only staffers.
That should be correctly noted in the transcripts that no one is willing to release...
