CLASSIC TRAFICANT: TAXES ON TAXES

July 20, 1995

"...Mr. Speaker, retirement tax, income tax, property tax, excise tax, sales tax, beer tax, tobacco tax, cable tax, telephone tax, gasoline tax, hotel tax, surtaxes, taxes on taxes, and, don't forget when you die, inheritance tax. But also how about tolls, user fees, service charges, licenses, transfers. And some experts around the country are saying we don't need tax reform.

Beam me up, Mr. Speaker. Maybe, just maybe, these so-called experts are so dumb, we could throw them at the ground and they would probably miss..."

CLASSIC TRAFICANT: THOSE OLD HOCKEY NETS AT THE BOSTON GARDEN

September 11, 1996

"...Mr. Speaker, there is a new book out called `The Complete Guide to Offshore Money Havens.' A big ad in the Wall Street Journal says `Make millions, protect your privacy and legally avoid paying any taxes on the profits..."

"...Think about it. The New America. Invest overseas, hire foreign workers for pennies, then ship your product back to America. And do not worry if you make a profit; you do not even have to pay taxes on it..."

"...There are more loopholes in the U.S. Tax Code than those old hockey nets at the Boston Garden. Beam me up. The truth is, America keeps shipping jobs and money overseas, and America is getting in return two truckloads of mangoes and two baseball players to be named later. Think about that shot..."

CLASSIC TRAFICANT: TAXES, TAXES, TAXES

House of Representatives - December 12, 1995

"...Mr. Speaker, how can America be bankrupt? There are airport taxes , highway taxes, excise taxes, estate taxes, gas taxes , property taxes, income taxes, sales taxes, luxury taxes, nanny taxes, old taxes, new taxes, hidden taxes, inheritance taxes; there is even now a tax called a sin tax. I say to my colleagues, no wonder the American people are taxed off..."

"...The truth is that Congress as a Congress that taxes everything ultimately will tax freedom and will not balance anything. What is next? A budget tax? Is it any wonder that the American people are saying, kiss my taxes?..."

"...Beam me up, Mr. Speaker. I yield back the balance of my taxes..."

CLASSIC TRAFICANT: CHINA BUILDS SILKWORM MISSILES

March 1, 1995

"...Mr. Speaker, everybody knows that China is ripping America off. They now enjoy a $38 billion trade surplus, laughing all the way to a Chinese bank. To me that is unbelievable, but what is more unbelievable is that China is then rewarded with most-favored-nation trade status...."

"...But what can even be more troubling in all this is that with that $35 billion, China builds Silkworm missiles. Then China takes those Silkworm missiles and sells them to Iran. Then Iran takes those Silkworm missiles and threatens the gulf, and then the Pentagon says to Congress, `We need more money to protect the gulf from those Silkworm missiles that Iran has that were made in China...."

"...Beam me up, Mr. Speaker. Now NASA is on an unmanned space mission to the moon. I think NASA should redirect and have an unmanned space mission to Washington, DC, and try to find out if there is any intelligent life left in the Nation's Capital..."

CLASSIC TRAFICANT: BACK PACKS FULL OF COCAINE AND HEROIN

September 7, 1995

"...Mr. Speaker, illegal immigration is at an all-time high: 4 million illegal immigrants in America. A study now shows that many of them actually end up with food stamps, free health care, free education, free housing, while the Congress of the United States continues to cut money for American citizens. Unbelievable...."

"...I say, ladies and gentlemen, it is time to put American military troops on our border. They are falling out of chairs without arm rests overseas and we have got millions of illegal immigrants, many of them running over our borders with back packs full of cocaine and heroin. Beam me up. Whoever created this immigration policy is in fact smoking dope..."

CLASSIC TRAFICANT: JAPAN, HIDE YOUR FACE

November 8, 1995

"...Mr. Speaker, the Daiwa Bank of Japan has been indicted. They covered up billions of dollars of losses. They embezzled millions. There was mail fraud, wire fraud, conspiracy. And what is really unbelievable, the Japanese Government knew of Daiwa's crimes. The Japanese Government did nothing about Daiwa's crimes and the Japanese Government, furthermore, never, let me repeat, never notified Uncle Sam about these problems..."

"...After all this, Japan has the nerve to complain about the Central Intelligence Agency checking out their trade programs. Unbelievable. I say, right on, John Deutch. It is time the CIA gets in the kitchen. These are threats. Shame, Japan, hide your face...."

I like what in this one:

AMERICA IN DANGER
March 21, 2001
Mr. Speaker, America is in danger. China just built their third missile base, and North Korea referred to Uncle Sam as an aggressor. Think about it. We are now looking down the fangs of a dragon.

China is going after Taiwan, North Korea is escalating tensions, and Janet Reno is doing Saturday Night Live. Beam me up here.

While President Reagan crippled communism, Reno's actions have absolutely reinvented the greatest threat America has ever had and no one is looking.

Thanks for the post.

Trafficant on taxes should be must reading for all Republican Congressman and Senator. Every morning before they leave for the halls of Congress they should recite his list of taxes and promise their constituents to reduce and/or get rid of some taxes and some programs funded by the taxes.

By the way, does anyone know any Federal agency, bureau, or closet the Bush administration has managed to close?

(Don't worry--I won't hold my breath waiting for an answer.)

I'm sure going to miss that guy - seemed to not beat around the bush (no pun intended). If he's allowed to live long enough to publish his memoires I'll be first in line to buy a copy!

Yes. I was very disappointed when Traficante folded during Clinton's impeachment vote in the House, but I haven't walked a mile in his shoes and can't judge him. He is somewhat weird, nobody would wear a fur piece on his head like that otherwise. But I do hope the best for him.

He'll really do four years in the can instead of eight.

The smart thing to do would be for Trafficant to write an expose book from jail and try to weasel his way into running for office again somehow.

He might be back.

When pigs fly. Anyone who thinks that GW was just sitting on the sidelines most likely believes the government BS on Waco.
