Thousands cheer in Gaza after 11 killed, 83 wounded in daylong terror spree

Eleven people and three assailants were killed in a daylong terror spree that rocked Israel Sunday from north to south, while another 83 people were wounded.

In the most deadly incident, nine people were killed and over 60 wounded in a suicide bomber attack Sunday morning aboard a crowded bus near the Meron junction south of Safed.

About 4,000 people celebrated the bus bombing in Gaza City on Sunday night, passing out sweets and praying near the wreckage of the home of Saleh Shehadeh, the Hamas bomb mastermind assassinated by Israel on July 22.

Hamas claimed responsibility for the bus attack as another act of revenge for the killing of Shehadeh and 14 other Palestinians, including nine children.

At the celebrations Sunday night, militants shouted through loudspeakers they would "avenge every drop of his blood."

"We advise (Israelis) to prepare more bodybags and wait for the coming operations," a masked Hamas man said at the rally.

Sunday's attacks began in the Gaza Strip before dawn, when a Palestinian frogman swam ashore armed with a Kalashnikov assault rifle and eight grenades.

He had apparently swum along the coastline before emerging near the Jewish settlements of Dugit and Elei Sinai, where he exchanged fire with soldiers before being killed.

Following the bus attack near Safed, three soldiers were wounded, one moderately and two lightly, in Nablus when a bomb exploded as they were conducting searches in the city.

The next incident occurred at about 11:40, when two Israelis were killed in Jerusalem near the Old City's Damascus Gate by a terrorist who fired a pistol at the driver of a Bezeq truck, then opened the door of the truck and shot dead the security guard.

An Israeli Arab sitting in a nearby coffee shop was killed as police exchanged fire with and killed the gunman.

About two hours later, one Israeli was seriously wounded and three others were lightly wounded near Avnei Hefetz in western Samaria, when Palestinian terrorists in a passing car fired on a car whose family occupants had just given a lift to a hitchhiker.

One hour later a roadside bomb was detonated alongside two passing IDF jeeps on what is known as the "Wallerstein Road" which bypasses Ramallah to the north, connecting Beit El and Dolev. Terrorists then opened fire at the vehicle, wounding four soldiers; one seriously, two moderately, and the other lightly.

Security measures were intensified amid warnings of further attempts by terrorist organizations to strike inside Israel and the territories.

The suicide bus bombing occurred around 8:15 a.m., when the No. 361 Egged bus from Haifa to Safed reached the Meron junction. Six civilians and three soldiers aboard were killed.

Eyewitnesses said there was a tremendous explosion and a flash of flame, and the bus, packed with passengers including soldiers en route to their bases in the North, began to burn. Firemen extinguished the blaze while paramedics started treating the wounded.

Witnesses said there were two explosions. The second one blew the roof off part of the bus and blew out windows and doors, also starting a brushfire nearby.

Northern Region police chief Cmdr. Ya'acov Borovsky said all the signs indicated that it was a suicide bomber attack.

Experts believe that the bomber's explosives belt, in contrast to previous attacks, detonated twice, first at the head of the bus and then bounced and went off again in the middle of the bus.

It is believed that the bomber boarded the bus somewhere near Karmiel. There are several Arab villages along the bus route, which is extensively used by local residents.

The area was sealed off as sappers combed the scene for any other bombs and the casualties were extricated, treated, and evacuated. The wounded where taken to the Rebecca Sieff Hospital in Safed, and some of the more serious were evacuated by helicopter to Haifa's Rambam Hospital.

One person suffering from light wounds was taken to Poriya Hospital near Tiberias, along with seven others suffering from shock.

Security sources said that the location of the attack deep inside Israel, and the timing early on Sunday morning when the bus would be packed, raised the possibility that the bomber had been assisted by a local person or persons.

Channel 2 reported that one theory being investigated was that the suicide bomber may have been given shelter in the area overnight or was brought to the vicinity in the early morning by someone acquainted with the area and the bus route.

The attack Sunday came on the eve of the opening tomorrow of the annual klezmer festival in Safed.

Galilee district police chief Deputy Commander Yehuda Solomon stressed that additional security measures would be taken by the police and private guards. Solomon said that, despite the attack, police expect the festival to go ahead as planned.

In Gaza, Hamas and Palestinians terrorists again celebrate death they
have brought to democracies and the West. They cheer the deaths of innocents
as Israel and America slowly bleed by their actions.

In Gaza, children support terror last night.

About 4,000 people celebrated the bus bombing ... passing out sweets and praying near the wreckage ...

I can't wait to hear Bush or Daschle tell us that Islam is a religion of peace.

They wont be cheering when their Trail of Tears begins.

Every single Arab will be driven from Judea and Samaria. The infected sore will be healed and the vermin will be moved to the cesspool of the Hashemite Kingdom.

God cannot truly bless either Israel or America with Satan-possessed, Muslims living in them. They must be sent back where Allah rules.

If we had given NAZI Germany the same consideration towards "innocent civilians" that is evident in our dealings with the Islamic killers and their "human shields", the UN symbol would be the FASCIST SWASTIKA instead of the COMMUNIST WHEAT AND GLOBE!

The time has come for DECISIVE ACTION!

Since "palestinians" are human beings "just like us", all these images must be the result of the warped Zionist imagination.

Surely we are not mindless animals who would celebrate Wanton Mass Murder.

It's all propaganda.

Are you a troll from DU or just mentally challenged? Any nukes on Gaza strip or West Bank would also radiate Israel and our one arab friend in the area, Jordan. Drop one on the Al Asqua Mosque in Jerusalem and you also take out the Jewish Temple and the site from which Christ ascended. Do you have fun pretending to be so stupid or does it just come naturally?

The Palestinian people are as morally corrupt and debased as is humanly possible. Cheering the deaths of innocents... This is reminiscent of Nazi Germany - only this time, the rest of the world lends legitimacy to this wickedness.

And why do the bombers do it? To get their 72 virgins in paradise. Islam is nothing more than a 7th century arabian fertility cult. Let's turn Mecca into a hole in the ground, and in the process make a mockery of their false god Allah, and then see if these deluded animals still believe they will have orgies for eternity!!

I dont understand this outrage over arabs cheering in the street. I dont like it but I dont understand the strong emotional response some of you vent. I mean are you saying you dont cheer at least a little inside when you see daisy cutters dropped on Al Qaeda positions in Afghanistan? I sure do. I enjoyed seeing the results of some of the Israeli attacks on Hamas leadership. I also cheered on all the guided munitions reining in on Saddam during the Gulf War. Does that make me possessed by Satan? Maybe I dont take to the streets to express my sadistic enjoyment but I'm over 50 and I have better things to do. I doubt the Palestinian kids do.

Some here on FR take absolute glee over some Democrat's family member getting arrested or some Democrat dying. How does that differ from what the arabs are expressing except in degree?

That is the official U.S. Govt. position! Islam is peace! Nevermind that it flies in the face of all historical facts. Political correctness run amok. All religions are equal!! All gods are equally true!! It just gives you warm fuzzies all over.

No, I favored nuking those cities to end the war. But back in 45 we didnt have Israel and to lesser extent, Jordan just a few miles away. You dont nuke the West Bank or Gaza without also irradiating the Israelis. The size of Israel including the Palestinian controlled areas is about the size of New Jersey.

Liberals need to shout louder about getting the "Peace Process" back on track. They are being drowned out by all the weeping, wailing and chanting!
