SEC Internet Enforcement Official Goes To Motley Fool By Reuters - Reuters Issue Date: Oct 14 1999 WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Jay Perlman, the No. 2 man in the Securities and Exchange Commission's Internet enforcement division, said Wednesday he's leaving the agency Friday to join the Internet company The Motley Fool (dossier) Inc.
Perlman, who's been employed by the securities regulator for nine years, will become associate general counsel at The Motley Fool, a Web site that offers investment advice and promotes long-term investments instead of rapid-buy-and-sell schemes.
He "has worked effectively to safeguard investors from Internet scams," said Richard Walker, the director of the SEC enforcement division.
While at the agency, Perlman, 34, helped establish a joint initiative between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the SEC to combat securities fraud on the Internet and he assisted the coordination of four nationwide initiatives to combat Internet securities fraud that led to dozens of enforcement cases.
Matthew Moro, special counsel for Internet projects, will fill Perlman's position, the SEC said.
