We are members of the Aquarium and I think this wasn't a private tour exactly. It was members night where the Aquarium is open only to members. We are members of the Audubon Zoo and they do this as well. I'm glad we skipped members night, though. I've been feeling sick thinking about us on that platform with our two-year-old twins.

It's not good to think about.

I applaud your membership. People like you made it possible for the rest of us to enjoy these attractions.

That said, perhaps future "members nights" should restrict their tours to areas set aside for the general public. The problem arises when members or special guests go "behind the scenes" to "get close" to the animals. This accident could have been far, far worse.

If they offer to take you on a behind the scenes tour don't go on the catwalk over the lion's cages.

Seriously though the aquarium wasn't designed to take these types of behind the scenes tours and it is negligent of them to do so. If the aquarium doesn't stop these tours, I am sure the price of your membership will increase next year to pay for the much-needed additional insurance.
