Mornin' ya'll !
Hey, Smiley, let's show everyone the biggest flag pole in the U.S. !.......
(Courtesy Mr. COB!)

This flag (in Laredo, Texas) was completed Sunday May 26,
2002, just in time for Memorial Day. It is the tallest flagpole
in the United States. It is 308 feet tall, weighs 52 tons, and
flies a 100-foot by 50-foot flag. It cost $300,000, which was
paid for by The Laredo National Bank.

Meek, reading your description of this flagpole, a couple of things came to mind.......

We owned 10 Communications towers in West Texas and my husband climbed and maintained them for years. This is not your "ordinary" flagpole - due to the height, it must be lighted, which would also mean there has to be a way for a man to climb the thing to replace the lighting......

This is probably built more along the lines of a Communications Tower - and to withstand the pull of the wind on such a huge flag would require a good strong base for an anchor.
