Zimbabwe -- More arrests, continued detention

The Revd Tim Neill and Andy Laing were arrested by the police yesterday in connection with plans by farmers to sue Zanu PF for property losses incurred since the invasions of farms began in February 2000. Justice for Agriculture (JAG) – a splinter group of the Commercial Farmers’ Union – this week announced plans to sue the ruling party for an estimated Z$14.5 billion in losses sustained by farmers.

JAG had asked farmers to submit their claims for compensation to Neill in Harare and Laing in Bulawayo, and it is understood that police arrested the two in connection with receiving these claim forms. Laing was released last night. It was not clear this morning whether Neill was still in custody.

Fletcher Dulini-Ncube was still in his hospital bed at the Mater Dei hospital in Bulawayo today, pending an application for bail in the High Court next week. Dulini-Ncube is being held in leg- irons, and is being guarded around the clock by three policemen. Dulini-Ncube, 62, an opposition MP for a Bulawayo constituency, is recovering from an operation to remove one of his eyes. Dulini-Ncube suffered irreparable damage to his sight when he was denied full access to medical treatment for his severe diabetic condition during his illegal detention.late last year, on charges of being implicated in the murder of Cain Nkala, a Matabeleland war veterans’ leader.

Where is the powerful and great UN during all of this?
What about human rights? Is this crowd like the PC crowd and stands for only selected human rights and for selected groups. All of this junk about civil and human rights is a
farce and a put on. It has one underlying plot and that is the eradication of the white race. The white race has become so stupid and complacent or either they are cowards and affraid to stand up for themselves and yet we send our kids off to fight and die. Wake the hell up White America!

Ran down AP World via Drudge today:
They reported large scale white refusals to leave their property (and massive debts owed to the Zim government by said white farmers) like it was just coming up on screen.
Of course, the Zim government had 'no plans' to take action.
And of course they did comment on huge numbers of farm workers who just might lose their jobs, if and when, etc.

The mainstream continues to come in a distant second, or third, or last.

PS: I still wonder why those farmers continue to hang around Zimbabwe, wonder if the debts to government have something to do with it?

Give me a break. Here's a quote for the week.

"The white race has become so stupid and complacent or either they are cowards and affraid to stand up for themselves and yet we send our kids off to fight and die. Wake the hell up White America!"

There are thousands of Blacks in Zimbabwe who are being deliberately starved because they failed to oppose Mugabe. It's not black vs. white. It's right vs. wrong. Mugabe and his thugs are wrong, their skin color matters naught.

That is the first time that I have heard of massive debts owing by the farmers to the government.

Like almost all farmers everywhere, they owe money to banks on mortgage debts, every business has to have such lines of credit. It costs money to put in a crop.

There was a recent case in which the court held that the government's purported siezure of the farms was defective in that the mortgage holders had not been given proper notice that their security was to be seized.

There may also be purported severance packages which the government has forced the farmers to pay to their workers as a consequence of the government having shut down their operations.

But from what you are saying, AP is making it sound like the farmers are being forclosed by the government for non-payment of debet, which is a total crock.

The blacks in Zimbabwe are as the press call it collateral
damage. It is a racist issue just like the liberals in this country use.The blacks over there can be identified as here with the conservative blacks. Here they just arent as brutal.

The farmers are targetted because they are WHITE! (payback).

Clearly Mugabe, like any good socialist, doesn't care
about poor black Zimbabwe'ans. "They must also sacrifice
for the collective good."

Who else is a good socialist? (K.A.)

I thought it looked odd as well, will try to relocate the entry.
On the other hand, it did sound like a possible mechanism for their actions, so word from an expert is appreciated.
Still wish we'd initiate an airlift and dare Mugabe to try to stop any one's egress.
