I hope you're right, but given the current conditions, I don't see it as such.

Let's take one of the reasons that many see immigration legal or otherwise as a cultural threat. I am assuming that translates to our Anglo-Saxon based culture. There is actually one large element being left out of that equation. That is the low birthrate of those of us that embody that culture. Not only in the United States but also to an even greater extent Europe. We are not even at replacement rates. Simple demographics and ethnic reproduction statistics make cultural shift inevitable even if immigration of all types are stopped. The largest group of Anglo-Saxon Americans are quickly aging beyond its capacity to reproduce and its offspring are even more reluctant to reproduce. The only realistic way to maintain cultural dominance in that situation is some form of "ethnic" cleansing. Is that what we are headed for?

This is one of those empirical questions that requires disspassionate analysis. I don't see much of that in this neighborhood. But I will keep plugging away.

Blackbart, you are exactly right. I've stated on several threads that the multiculturalism being taught is literally destroying this country. Furthermore, I do think that there is a phenomena that effects human beings of which they want to live around and socialize with individuals who look, think, and act like them. Furthermore, given housing patterns, resistance to assimilate, bilingualism, etc., I don't think that current immigration patterns will work out in the best interests for America. It's like a big train wreck, of which people see coming, but political correctness has blinded them into saying, "Everything is fine and dandy. I don't see any "trainwreck" up ahead. You must be ignorant (racist) for thinking so".

"Kalifornia," the state itself, has the third largest economy in the world... so tell me, why our schools are going into deficits that are incomprehensible?
Illegals, their children, and the taxpayers who can no longer afford to pay for their care, food, medical and housing! You see it is simple math. The tax base is just that, based on numbers. Undocumented, paid under the table illegals do not keep up this tax base, or any other services!!!

Actually, birth rates among non-hispanic white Americans aren't as low as you're contening. Somewhere around 1.9. I'll agree that Europe is very low with their 1.2 and 1.3 birthrates. Catholic Ireland is the only nation that is at or around replacement capacity.

What you seem to be advocating is interjecting large numbers of non-western, non-European peoples into the United States. Is that what you are saying? If so, I think that is a vastly bigger problem than cutting off all immigration. It should be obvious why. If you change America's demographic component, then it will change forever. It is never coming back. That is, what makes America America will be gone. I don't think that an America that looks like the UN is the America that you would like to live in. One in which multiple languages are spoking, different cultures abound, outright confusion, an oppressive centralized government to keep the bickering groups at bay. Furthermore, look at social identity politics. Imagine how much worse it will get.

The other option is to stop all immigration, of which America will see a slight drop in newborns. However, a 1.9-2.0 birthrate is not the catastrophe that Europe is dealing with. All that needs to be done is for abortion to be outlawed, as well as taxes lowered. With more wealth and the inability to murder ones child, birth rates will rise. Furthermore, American culture will live on, socialism will be kept at bay, and a chaotic nightmare America will be averted.

You are just the sort of person, who shows up on the Africa Watch threads, and spouts off how ALL of the whites, in Zimbabwe and ASouth Africa should all just leave. Of course, most can't afford to and most countries will NOT give them visas. Then, you post this sort of ludicrous , bigotted thread, wherein, you claim that the USA can't allow any more immigration.

You aren't any different from the old " Know Nothings ", or those already here, in the latter part of the 19th century, who were against ALL further immigration. You're here, so quick ... shut the door !

I am against illegal immigration. Heck, I am against breaking ALL laws ! That havbing been said, you just are reacting emotionally , without sense and reason. Give it a rest.

There was a time when people came to America to improve their lives and became American citizens in the process. Now they come here and live off the public dole while bitching about American imperialism (a myth). Every time I see someone living here and displaying a flag from their "home land" my blood pressure spikes.

If they don't like it here then they shouldn't let the door slam on their ass when they leave.

Is your point a racial or a cultural one? Perhaps you are just inanely and without evidence conflating the two.

I'm not sarcastic, I'm simply tired after nearly 20 years of working on the issue. But I do get a small satisfaction from the discomfort of the yuppie jerks who have been pushing for no borders, as they finally realize that they can't isolate themselves in their little enclaves from the problems they have helped create. Trauma centers are closing, the schools are failing, the freeways are clogged, the cities are defaced with grafitti. It's a regular paradise.

Much of that is due to California's well-deserved reputation as a welfare Mecca. Many of the problems with illegal immigration start with how State governments view the issue. When a state takes a tough welfare stance on everyone it also cuts down on those that cross the border for the freebies. It is not a comprehensive solution but it is one that each state has in its power to implement.

Actually traffic aside, LA is a more agreeable city than it has been for a long time, with neighborhoods being spruced up everywhere. Housing prices reflect this.

Unfortuneatly sir I think it's that "No problem here." and "Lets wait and see." attitude that's partially to blame for the present situation. Living in California as you do, can you really tell me the assimilation process is alive and well. Do you really think there is little difference between immigration today and that of a hundred or so years ago. I find that very hard to believe.

I'm an east coast transplant living in California for the last fourteen years now(S.F. bay area) and my jaw still drops at the changes that have happened in only the last ten years or so.

California and the southwest are being consumed at an incredible rate and the impact on all is painfully apparent. I'm amazed that that is lost on you.

Yes, my up close and personal opinion is that assimilation is alive and well. I encounter it every day. Most service workers in Orange County are Hispanic, and they speak very servicable if not fluent English. Many come from somewhat middle class backgrounds in Mexico actually.

Actually, NoPardons, I am posting with complete reason. I see the factuality of life. It takes upwards of one hundred years for individuals outside of the main culture to assimilate. It took blacks and whites a long time to mesh. However, a lot of this came at a time with limited immigration, of which was limited in its scope to Europe.

I could argue with you, but I don't see what it will accomplish. The facts are that some will assimilate, but many won't. Furthermore, with enormous numbers, especially given PC politics, they're not likely to assimilate if the current rate keeps up.

Believe me, I'd like to paint a rosy picture on it, but I don't think that it will happen.

Did America become NOT America, when Italians and Austrians and Poles and Hungarians and Russians and the Irish, et al made a mad dash to our shores , from the 1880s through the 1930s ? During that time, there were not only " Little " whatevers sprouting up all over the place, there were newspapers and radio programs and theatres, where only something other than English was spoken. Did THAT " ruin " this nation ?

No, the birth rate is NOT going to go up, in the forseeable future; even should abortion be outlawed. Far too many people are either NOT getting married / delaying marriage / can't afford to have huge families / don't want to have many children, for that to occur. Your " wishes " aren't substanciated, at all, by facts and probability.

I agree, especially all the Mexican, Columbian, Cuban, and Brazilian flags hanging from the rear view mirrors, on antennas, on the bumper, on windows, etc.
