The Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sr. is back in the pulpit in Georgia. This morning the long-time civil rights activist spoke to members of the Ben Hill United Methodist Church in Southwest Atlanta.
Jackson, the head of the Chicago-based Rainbow/PUSH Coalition and a two-time Democratic candidate for president is hoping to increase voter participation by African Americans in the primary and general elections this year.
After preaching to the congregation, Jackson is to hold a news conference where he will talk about a number of issues, including safety measures for kids going back to school this week.
He will address the Middle East situation, AIDS and elections, among other topics said Hank Stewart, spokesman for the Rainbow/PUSH Atlanta office.
Jackson, a perennial supporter of Atlanta Democratic U.S. representatives John Lewis and Cynthia McKinney has not said if he will actively campaign on their behalf while in Atlanta. McKinney is in a tough primary race to hold her fourth district seat against challenger Denise Majette, a former state court judge. Lewis is expected to retain his seat fairly easily.
If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)
Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.
Not hardly - Jesse's personal friends with the McKinney family. I'm sure he'll support Cynthia.
I would have bet anything he would not endorse McKinney.
(sarcasm dripping off the page)
I still don't think Jesse will do it.
Mr. Hilliard says at least three other black House Democrats will be "targeted" for defeat this year by Jewish campaign contributors who rank support for Israel as a top priority.Washington Times"They have targeted Cynthia McKinney in Georgia; they have targeted Jesse Jackson Jr. of Chicago and Donald Payne of Newark [N.J.]," Mr. Hilliard says. "Many African-Americans were not pleased with the manner of Jewish influence in the African-American district. I don't think that they're going to be pleased with that influence in Cynthia McKinney's district, or Jesse Jackson, or Don Payne or anybody else that represents a predominantly African-American district."
I've heard this from several places; no one particular source, though.
I wouldn't be surprised if it were; McKinney, Hilliard & Payne all have received Arab monies, if I understand correctly. I had not heard of any Arab connection to Jesse, Jr. though.
How about Arafat - Jesse, Sr. - Jesse, Jr.?
Touché
Good point that I hadn't thought of...
