In the 4th, incumbent Cynthia McKinney's irresponsible -- indeed, wildly irrational -- rhetoric has alienated many of her constituents. So it is no surprise that she has drawn a strong challenger, former DeKalb State Court Judge Denise Majette.
Majette is more than just "not McKinney." With a Yale law degree, she is bright and thoughtful, a moderate candidate who can well represent the needs of a diverse district.

Click on the link to the article if you want to see all of their recommendations. This is the only one that stood out as unusual.
And unusual it is. The AJC is almost a Democratic party house organ. Almost as bad as the NY Times when it comes to following the Democratic party line. The only thing I can gater from this endorsement of Majette is that the Democratic insider power structure (the people that really control the money and support groups like the unions) has dumped McKinney.

Interesting!! Your assumption about the Dem party powers dumping her is the first thing I thought when I read the title.

McKinney, like Daschle, McAuliffe, Condit, Traficant and Torricelli, would be a net minus to the national party in November. All over America, Reps would love to lump their opponents to this poster child for Democrat disloyalty.

The debate cinched it for the AJC.McKinney was aloof, "holier than thou," mean-spirited, and full of used food.
She kept everyone wondering even IF she would show up right down to the last minute. And when challenged on that by the AJC reporter, she haughitly replied, "We were busy."
This is on the heels of her off-the-handle father (GA State Representative Billy "The Knife" McKinney) saying that "Cynthia didn't need to debate a nobody" like Denise Majette.

Reading some of the other endorsements, I was interested to note that the Atlanta Journal Constitution, though often berated as the super-liberal "Urinal", described Bob Barr as "competent", even while endorsing Linder. They had nothing bad to say about Barr, simply preferring Linder slightly.
There is no way that a far left newspaper like the NY Times or Boston Globe could ever mention Barr in such an editorial without blasting him as an "extremist", etc.

Well I'll be......a shunning!

Did anyone see
this thread about the peace activists aka terrorist supporters who were travelling with Congressional staffers? Anybody know if some or all of these staffers were McKinney's?

They may have decided that playing it cool might be the best way this time. Normally, the best way to decide who to vote for is to find out who the AJC endorsed, then vote for the other person. Had they used any fiery language to describe Barr, they very easily could have caused people to vote for Barr simply because the AJC was against him.

*Snicker*. What self-respecting newspaper would endorse a loon like McKinney after her antics of the last year? Her defeat will be sweet!

Looks like Jihad Cindy is too much for ultra-liberal Atlanta Constitution to stomach. She does so much flakey stuff.

"Is McKinney just some harmless partisan loose cannon, or a wily fox? The Southeastern Legal Foundation discovered that between Sept. 11 and Dec. 31, 2001, 100 of the 108 McKinney contributors of more than $100 were identifiably Arab or Middle Eastern. "If we are to give any credence to her baseless [Bush] claims, the American people deserve to know that McKinney's financial 'relationships' - her campaign contributors - are heavily represented by Arab and Middle Eastern-connected individuals, as well as organizations which have expressed sympathy for terrorist organizations, adds Phil Kent, SLF President. If McKinney's standard of review is 'relationships,' then her 'relationships' - and the influence those relationships have on her actions - must also be investigated."
Human Events finds that unlike previous election cycles, when she got 20% to 40% of her campaign cash from outside Georgia, McKinney received more than 90% of her itemized individual contributions from outside her state in 2001. The question of whether or not there is method to McKinneys madness might not be as important as whos exactly pulling her strings. Throw in McKinneys seats on the House Armed Services and International Relations Committees, and you have yourself lots of interesting questions. "

McKinney's staffers are part of the usual suspects, given that McKinney's staunch supporter, Louis Farrakhan, was refused entry into Israel. There are a few more suspects: Earl Hilliard, David Bonier, Darrell Issa, Jesse Jackson Jr., et al.
But my money's on McKinney's staff being involved in this international incident.

McKinney wrongly assumed that she was heir to the political de-nasty of her father - the Reverand McKinney. It's her foot that got shot - even the yellow dog demos have distanced themselves from "Crazy McKinney".
To: mhking
I take it McKinney's poll figures were already very bad for her to show up at the debate and then go so negative. I imagine the AJC's disendorsement will sink those numbers even further, especially among people like the Emory crowd.
To: Brookhaven
Oh oh. We helped to alienate McKinney, and now the Dems are going to clean up their act and endorse a much better candidate and make it a lot tougher for our guys. What's this hole in my foot?

But my money's on McKinney's staff being involved in this international incident. That would be very daring in view of McKinney's being about to face a difficult primary. But then again she hasn't exactly been prudent in recent months. And maybe she's anticipating another payoff.
It is very strange that we can't find out whose staffers are on that trip.
To: dennisw
Larry, your homie is going down! LOL! I have changed my view. I thought McKinney would do the most harm to Democrats if she won. But now Jesse Jackson has endorsed McKinney. I thought he would not do that, I assumed the DLC leadership had bought him off. If she loses, the division between blacks and Jews within the Democrat party will be worse than ever. If she wins, she will annoy the Democrat leadership and take revenge for attempts to defeat her.
Either way, McKinney's race is a win/win for conservatives.
To: Jimer
This is a lose-lose for the Democrats, and a win-win for us. If McKinney wins, she will continue to embarrass the Democrats. If she loses, that will further embitter relations between the Dems' black and Jewish constituencies.
