USE MILITARY TO SEAL OUR BORDERS
Tucson Citizen ^ | Aug. 12, 2002 | Jim Nixon

An illegal alien is "a person who lives in a foreign country without the legal approval of that country." Thus he is a criminal who broke the law.

Some Americans feel this country owes illegal aliens an opportunity because our ancestors came as immigrants. These people forget that our ancestors came here as legal immigrants - not illegal aliens.

{I suggest that the Samaritan Patrol and all other citizens join with Arizonans for Immigration Control in demanding that our government station our military along our borders to stop these deaths and protect our national security.

Oh boy, thanks for posting this, it's such a no-brainer. Our borders are sieves and there's a war going on down there. Bush can't ignore this forever in the name of political correctness and votes.

Oh, I don't know about that...

We used to teach soldiers how to perform ground surveillance operations at Ft. Huachuca here on the US/Mexico border. Maybe we could make this into a training opportunity for MI soldiers and Infantry/Cavalry scouts...

As a matter of fact, we did just that in the Yuma Sector a little over 10 years ago. It was quite successful.

This man's point of view seems so reasonable its hard to imagine how anyone could argue with it, let alone ream the man for his opinion.

Yet there are many here who would.

Republican Jim Behnke (retired Army Lt.Col) is running for Congress in this 8th Arizona Congressional district along the Mexican border. One of his primary campaign planks is that he wants to deploy the military to secure our borders.

He's running against RINO Jim Kolbe (openly gay, pro-abortion [Kolbe voted against Partial Birth Abortion Ban 7 times out of 7], pro-China appeasement, pro-NAFTA, pro-WTO, pro-open borders [Kolbe cast the deciding vote in the last 245(i) Amnesty vote], pro-UN, pro-gun control [Kolbe voted for Brady Act and cast deciding vote on 'Assault Weapons' ban], etc.) in the Primary Election on September 10th. Behnke is running a purely grassroots campaign against Kolbe's $1.6million campaign warchest. Behnke needs all the support he can get from FReepers in this close race.

If we have another major terrorist attack by illegal aliens, I would not want to be Bush or Congress. They are going to be blamed for leaving our borders wide open.

Retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel, Jim Nixon makes too much sense and he's way too honest.

He has no future in politics, that's for sure.

“In January of 1916 Villista forces raided a train coming from Chihuahua City, killing 17 Americans on board. On March 9th, Villa at the head of a force numbering about 450 raided Columbus, New Mexico killing 19 Americans.

On March 15th President Wilson ordered Brigadier General John J. (Black Jack) Pershing to cross the Mexican border in pursuit of Villa. A brash young lieutenant by the name of George S. Patton managed to get appointed to Pershing’s staff just before he jumped off. Most of the regular Cavalry units in the Western U.S., including the "Buffalo Solders" of the 10th Cavalry, participated in pursuit of Poncho Villa. On May 6th another band of Mexicans raided the town of Glen Springs, Texas, shouting "Viva Villa" and "Viva Carranza." To augment the defense of the Southern borders of the United States, Wilson began a call up of the National Guard beginning with Texas and Arizona and New Mexico units on June 18, 1916. Eventually the entire National Guard participated. The role of the National Guard troops was to patrol the border, secure towns and bridges thus freeing up the regular army troops for action under Pershing.”

I think that Jim Nixon is dead on with his comments except for his stance on the use of the military on the border.

What occurs along our southern border nightly is a national disgrace but is hardly a war. There is no army lined up for invasion to be targeted and destroyed. In our current context the mission of defending our border is not a military one and placing our troops there will only degrade their war fighting capability.

This is just the kind of police action that the UN would have our military tied up doing all over the world if they could. These types of missions makes no sense in Bosnia and they makes no sense in New Mexico.

We need our solders to do what they do best "kill the enemy and break his toys". While our southern border is an unqualified mess, there is little use for tanks and artillery, smart bombs or infantry, unless you simply want to start killing the illegal aliens.

Some time back, three Marines killed a US citizen in Texas while assigned to the border. It was a real tragedy. The young Marines did it right and did exactly what they are trained to do, be aggressive, find and kill the enemy. They did exactly what we need them to do. Unfortunately, the goat herder was not the enemy just a kid plinking with a 22 rifle.

When my troops roll into Iraq, I don't want them thinking about a bunch of convoluted rules of engagement they learned on their tour of duty on the Mexican border. I can think of no better way to get our soldiers killed. It is essential that they remain focused on their primary training if they are to be successful and come home alive.

The mass illegal migration along out southern border is not an accident nor is it the result of some unseen force. It is the result of carefully crafted legislation and policy. If you want to stop illegal immigration you need to do it at its source. Look no further than the US Congress.
