What were the differences? My husband almost choked when he saw the deleted scene with Robert McNamara...

...I personally will NEVER FORGET the ..WWS.. Deleted DVD Scene showing a just widowed Mrs. TOM METSKER attempting to sing a Christain Song in front of her Ft. Benning's Church members, and the real Lt. Gen. HAL G. MOORE (Ret.), honoring her husband at his own Memorial Service. And then came the sudden break away to BRUCE CRANDALL and ED "TOO TALL" FREEMAN's Huey's zeroing once again for LZ X-Ray.
...I will also NEVER FORGET carrying Capt. TOM METSKER's body off of Major BRUCE CRANDALL's Huey at LZ Falcon, id'ing him and later on typing up Lt. Col. HAL G. MOORE's -Letter of Condolance- to his widow.
NEVER.

One character was actually an amalgamism of about 6 guys (can't remember which character). That whole hand raising out of the dirt scene was a fabrication (as the guy said "we were yelling our heads off before our rescuers were even in sight, everybody still alive was quite visibly alive"). And that closing scene where he pays respect to the enemy never happened. I think there were a couple more but that's all I can remember. And of course the death notice thing was pure Hollywood in the timing (nobody got notices while the battle was still happening for reasons that are obvious upon reflection), but that was so powerful they are completely forgiven.
