Store owner throws money in parking lot

A store owner's promotion sends money floating down from the sky. ABC13 Eyewitness News (8/20/02) — Now some people accuse politicians of throwing money away, but we found one Houston business owner literally doing just that. It was an unusual scene outside the Light Speed Systems computer store in Bellaire Tuesday. During the noon hour, the owner climbed a ladder and started throwing money away.

Store owner Mike Anguin says usual forms of advertising are too expensive, so he's doing this instead, and he'll be back at it again on Wednesday.

"Every day, every day at 12:30. Except Sundays. I watch Nascar racing," said Anguin.

He wanted advertising and he got it. The store's in the 5300 block of Bellaire Boulevard.

Besides, who wants to give money to liberal rags for print ads or left wing networks for commercials. It's brilliant, defund the media, advertise yourself.

I am thinking raffle...Sells thousands of tickets (inside store of course) and 100 lucky people get to stand under the ladder. Money not dropped goes to a charity of course, keeping it all above the board, but the traffic in the business would pay off :)

The guy's a genius. International exposure for a handful of singles. Taxable claim for advertising expense with video proof. Probably extreme local exposure and next Wed his parking lot will be full. :-)

More likely the media will contact the local police and next week he will be arrested for littering. Can't have people working outside the system.

Sounds like the old Gallagher routine. Here's how much cash I'm throwing out into the audience and here's how much I'm telling the IRS I threw out (snicker).

Reminds me of the WKRP television show in the 70's when Herb throws turkeys out of the newsroom traffic chopper at thanksgiving. I bet the buisiness owner doing this never went to Wharton either. Simple goals, simple methods, big results.

Considering that even a small display ad in a big newspaper can run you thousands of dollars or more per insertion, this makes a lot of sense.

"Oh, the humanity. It's raining poultry." - Les Nessman

"Swear to God, I thought turkeys could fly." - Herb Terlick

All time favorite "WKRP in Cincinatti" episode.
