The Sheeple followed the media and, instead, voted for an open borders, globalist in the name of Dubya.

True BUT during Mr. Bush's run for presidency he was very careful about concealing his open borders, globalist agenda. He knew that articulating such nonsense during the campaign would have instantly doomed his election. Well, he won't fool many of us again.

Again, though, there is clearly room for people to disagree on this issue in varying degrees, and to do so in a civil manner.

What is debatable about illegal immigration? It's called illegal because it's against the law. I have e-mailed and called politicians, running up a phone bill to ask them...what laws can I break that you'll amnesty me for? I'm tired of politicians in both parties selling the country out.

Since I began voting I have yet cast for a democrat, but when it comes to immigration there's no such thing as partisanship for me, I expect these people to do the right thing in the national interest. We tried amnesty once, it was a disaster, the last thing we should be doing is giving another one. I don't care how hard they work, or if everyone of them votes Republican, either we're a nation of laws or we aren't.

And it's quite possible for conservatives to have differing ideas on how to EFFECTIVELY control illegal immigration.

We can all come together on the constitution and the enforcement of our laws. Otherwise you effectively believe in open borders and a disregard for the law.

Well, some people want to handle it in a different manner than you do. I do not think it warrants aspersions like "open borders" and "disregard for the law" because people disagree with you on how to EFFECTIVELY enforce the law.

Do you consider everyone who jumps our border an immigrant?

Hi folks,

I'm flagging here because you'd posted on this thread, and I'm keeping a running tally of the answers to the question:

Should all or some portion of the Illegal Aliens be granted an Amnesty and be thereby allowed to change their status and acquire legal residence in the United States?

Responses to this very unscientific poll are breaking down into the following categories:

1. Support blanket Amnesty
2. Support partial Amnesty
3. Support no Amnesty
4. Did not state

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to tell from your replies on the thread what your answer would be. While I think I have an idea for some of you, there have been a few surprises, so I've scored you as "Did not state."

If you'd like to clarify that, let me know.

Thanks.

Hutch you represent a fairly large neoconservative wing in the Republican party, you are forcing conservatives to debate an issue that is to me undebatable. Exactly how do you define enforcement? I HAVE read your posts and my impression is except for those who have committed crimes or on welfare you would let the others stay. How do you call that enforcement? Sounds more like surrender to me.

Come on Twodees, punctuation is insignificant. However, I'm not sure if it is NoPardons who has critized grammar in the past.

Well that depends on how they want to handle it. Amnesty has proven it's ineffectiveness. Light amounts of border patrol has proven it's ineffectiveness. Your statements that illegal status is not itself a reason to deport or enforce the law is obviously ineffective. Your position supports open borders and in no way is a disagreement about how to enforce the law. It is a disregard for the law.

No amnesty! Amnesty rewards the cheaters and encourages more illegals hoping to catch the next round of amnesty.

First of all, I dispute the notion it is surrender.

Second of all, you forgot that I'd also send out those who have been sponging off welfare.

A person who is working hard, even if they came in illegally is doing a lot less harm than the hucksters and demagouges who are demanding reparations for slavery, if you want my unvarnished opinion on the subject.

If they honestly wanted to be Americans, they would not be flying the Mexican flags, dorning their shops in red, white, and green. They wouldn't be labeling their signs in the Spanish language. They wouldn't have a Mexican Flag decal, rear view mirror assessory, or front licence plate. They would be assimilating in larger numbers.

Sorry, but when my cousin's Mexican Immigrant husband tells his American-born daughters that they are Mexican, I view this as much an example of non-assimilation as HC's missionary example.

Yes, too bad that he didn't mention that in his campaign. If he stated his intentions out front in the debates, and if Buchanan was allowed to take part in them, perhaps we'd see a different result. It may have gotten Gore elected, but at least conservatives would be awake.

I need to correct 471 - you did acknowledge that I want the ones on welfare out of the country. I shoudl have mentioned that I want the Aztlan separatists out.

Look at Post 244.

I want to DOUBLE the number of agents that the Gekas bill (of which I support all but four of the 50+ provisions it has, disagreement that I have outlined elsewhere on this thread). 16,000 more Border Patrol Agents, 4,000 more INS Inspectors.

That alone ought to put to rest your claim that I'd support "open borders" for any further discussion. The question is, what do we do about the ones that are here already? So, I say find the criminals and welfare sponges, and kick them out, but let the folks who are working here stay.

The ones who are here and working hard are much less of a threat to this country than the demagouges and hucksters demanding reparations for slavery.

No I did mention your position on welfare post 467.

A person who is working hard, even if they came in illegally is doing a lot less harm than the hucksters and demagouges who are demanding reparations for slavery, if you want my unvarnished opinion on the subject.

Prisoners on the chain gang work hard too, but they're still lawbreakers.

Say what you want about blacks and reparations, which is ridiculous, nevertheless they are AMERICANS with a right to be here. Illegal aliens on the other hand have no such right.

Whether you know it or not, you are a spokesman for the Chris Cannon, Orin Hatch, Chuck Hagel wing of the Republican party, so I'll ask YOU...what laws can I break and be amnestied for?
