country, take a brief moment of your day to thank them.
Thank them for the sacrifice they made

We at Free Republic, and the USO Canteen FReeper Style,

Message from Snow Bunny to all those who visit the Canteen.

This is how I think of the USO Canteen Freeper Style.
It is like a cottage down a road,
a place where a weary veteran can spend the night.

Since it opened, it is magical how so many
Freepers who post here, feel it too.
It has been so dear how the Freepers
kept making it a cottage - a home-type of place
that had a huge living room
for them to visit in and a dance floor, a library, etc.

Many Veterans have written to me,
saying that the Canteen is like home
to them for the first time since they served.

This is your Canteen -
a respite from our busy
and sometimes troubling world.
Make yourself at home.

Because 5 of 6 ships I have been on have been amphibious ships,
or "gators".

Also, my job is navigation, or a 'gator.

I am a Chief Petty Officer and just went
over 20 years service this March.

My ships have been :
USS CROMMELIN (FFG-37) plankowner
USS BRISTOL COUNTY (LST-1198)
USS ST LOUIS (LKA-116)
USS SAN BERNARDINO (LST-1189) decomm crew
USS DUBUQUE (LPD-8)
USS JUNEAU (LPD-10)

I have been stationed in Japan since 1990.
I am currently on shore duty near Tokyo,Japan/

Prior to this tour all my Japan time was in Sasebo, on Kyushu.

I have been happily married for over 9 years to my lovely wife Atsuko.

We have two sons, Takezo, age 7, and Shuzo, age 5.

Although I read FR daily, I don't usually log on unless I want to

What you need is a ftp address or however your server has it set up. Or, since everyone here is so nice and generous, I am sure that what is given to you can be left on our sites until you get your own. Also, whenever there is something posted on the web you can use that address to post things from so it is actually stored on another site of the posting person. For instance, if I have this on my website.......you can repost it using my website as the source. Or anything else you see posted works the same way. :)

Wouldn't I need my own website to post from though, since you can't post graphics from your hard drive? I guess I am going to have to learn to set up my own website.

No, not a necessity. The people here at the Canteen are VERY helpful with that. Several of them are most talented with the graphics, & will make a graphic for you AND store it on their server, for you to use. Again, welcome to the Canteen!

Thank you so much. I really must learn some new computer skills. I have some pictures I am waiting to post here for an idea I have for honoring the 3rd Army and all our military. I guess I better let Bunny know and find a spot to post some pictures.

Thank you all for the assistance. Everyone here is so very nice. If I wasn't so sleepy I would stick around but I really must get some sleep as I have some overtime to work the next month or so.

If you have pictures you want posted you are likely to find the people here willing to post them for you. All you need to do is email them to that person. We always try to help while you are learning how to maintain your own files and post them. :)
