Funny....one of my most memorable, and best, English teachers was a black woman (who also was handicapped by today's standards - polio of arm).....The QUEENS English was a REQUIREMENT in her class!

That brings back an old dusty memory for me. Back in LA in ~1967, I had Mrs. Griggs as my 3rd grade teacher. That's LA as in "Lower Alabama", specifically Ft. Rucker, AL, and Mrs. Griggs was black.

I think it was a little shocking at first for my mom (not very many blacks in her small town growing up in PA), especially in that place at that time, but what I recall was a nice caring lady who ran a tight ship and taught well. And without any ebonics, that's for sure.
