August 24, 2002 -- Cops were fuming yesterday over the district attorney's quick release of Bryant Gumbel's son - who had been arrested for assault and attempted robbery - despite a victim's positive identification less than an hour after the attack.

His lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, said the Gumbels have no plans to sue the city, and are accepting the incident as "good old-fashioned mistakes that happen." "My client is not vindictive or angry," Brafman said. Slick. Very slick.

I'm no fan of Bryant Gumble--and didn't even know he had a son. However, I find it hard to believe that the son would be out snatching some lady's purse. Unless there's some history that the son is penniless and desperate, purse-snatching, which usually doesn't yield much in the way of money, seems an odd crime for him to commit.

"That's not what I want."

From the perp's remark ("That's not what I want."), it would appear the objective of the perp was sexual assault of the 31-year-old woman. Or perhaps just beating up on "whitey" for the hell of it. I could see the son of a wealthy Black celeb doing either of those -- especially if he was brought up on a steady diet of "hate whitey"

Hard to believe that a young black man could actually live in the same high priced neighborhood as this assaulted woman? That is a mistake frequently made by cops and residents alike.
Consider 24 hours in jail if you happened to be picked up walking down the street after someone has reported a crime.
They could have checked his alibi a lot quicker than 24 hours.

I've been penniless and desparate, but I'd never even consider anything like that. Y^ou'd be surprised at the arrogance some well-to-do folks can have. When I first heard about the O.J. Simpson thing, I was like no way,he's OJ Simpson for crying out loud, he don't need to do that. Oh well...

Probably not too many very tall young black men out in that neighborhood at 2:30 AM. Plus, the victim gave a positive ID.

Bradley obviously wanted something other than the lady's purse. Here's a pic of his pop and his mistress/wife.

Perhaps it is an honest mistake, though I too am no fan of Bryant Gumbel. However, if the son is a thug we will hear from him again soon.

I wonder if the victim of the assault bears any resemblance to the elder Gumbel's bride. Might explain the psychology.

I'm sure the lib media is going to jump on this like they did when the Bush girls had a few drinks. /s
Also, I'd like to be a 'fly on the wall' as gumball's new in-laws react to this news at the wedding reception.

He's probably consumed by some kind of twisted sense of the need for reparations.

NY Post article (follow the link) has a photo of young Gumbel. Note that, as per the victim's description, he has a shaved head and white shirt. Presumably the rest of the description also checked out.
To: aristeides
Gumbel was arrested, but released after his alibi - he said he was at the Third Avenue bar Big Sur with a date at the time of the crime - checked out.If his alibi checked out, the police obviously made a mistake and he is innocent. As for possible further action against the city, that's a dicier issue. He did match the decsription and there is no evidence the police honed in on him because of race.
Of course, this will be fodder for some of his slimeball father's moronic "whitey-hates-us-and-wants-to-oppress-us" rants. Not to worry, liberals will suck that crap up with a smile on thier face and demand more.

The cops these reporters talked to don't seem to have been too satisfied with the alibi. I suspect they had reasons not to be satisfied.
