Unfortunately it IS predominantely a California problem..
35% of all hispanics who live in the US reside in California. Most of the California hispanics trace their ancestory to Mexico.
While the majority of California hispanics are US citizens over 90% are illegal aliens or the progeny of illegal aliens.
The figures which you sited are increases in population, not a percentage of population.
As an example: If Anywhere USA has a population of 1 and two more people move to Anywhere USA the town has seen a 300% increase in population yet the town still only has a population of 3 people
Is that something you can back with documentation? The math could get pretty tricky--geometric progresion.
It isn't anything new, to have a significant hispanic/immigrant component of population, in Calif., Texas, New Mexico, Arizona.
As a 54 yo California native, I've never had a choice, and it doesn't particularly bother me, day to day. I don't "speak" Spanish, and don't need to.
I can understand whereby folks, when it comes to your town/state, will fairly well freak out.
Mexican-Americans have served in times of war, for America, in numbers disproportionately larger than their percent of population. I have several friends in that category, and it is impossible for me to broadly disrespect people I've known most of my life, who have served their country, even if their mom or dad or both were "wetbacks," to use an earlier term.
By your statistical comment, if my veteran buddies' parents were wetbacks, then their children and grandchildren would be the "progeny" which you reference.
Anybody out there know how one distinguished an illegal vs. legal immigrant, in the 1840s through 1870s?
My comments are not intended to make light of, or diminish the illegal immigration issues, faced by America. At a policy level, I have always believed we should have a much more secure border.
At a personal level, I can't be angry with other people (and their progeny), trying to better themselves. I have many friends and relatives who have intermarried with hispanic people. That is true, for many people in the Southwest and California, including the Bush family.
If I was in charge of the INS, I'd put the priority on identifying muslim terrorists.

I agree which what you said about California. However, I did not "site" figures. The hispanic (as well as illegal) population is growing everywhere in the states. Forgive me for not having the stats directly on hand, but it has been discussed on this forum ad hominem.
However, we in Aztlan have a huge problem. We are in this together, my friend.
