DALLAS | -- Many of America's 77 million baby boomers began moving into middle age and the homestretch toward retirement just as the late, much-lamented bull market took off.
And just as that market surge fueled visions of a wealthier, more secure future, its fall is forcing many boomers to recalculate their expectations. The new math involves a lot of subtracting.

If only they had embraced diversity-in their porfolios!

Yup, the roaring 90s, the Clinton era that said greed was good and lying was acceptable - ya reaps what ya sows.

Painful reading!

I'll bet most of my fellow baby boomers are now paying a lot closer attention to those Social Security statements you get in the mail from time to time.
The boomers are going to form a nearly insurmountable voting block, whose sole purpose will be to elect politicians who increase their Federal entitlements the most.
If you all think we have greedy seasoned citizens now, just wait.

Painful reading!Yes it was, but then again, things aren't nearly as bad as they could be. Most of these people are only talking about making lifestyle changes like not taking so many vacations or going out to eat as often. Not have the new Lexus in the drive isn't really hardship. Things don't always go our way and there are hardships in life.

...the Clinton era that said greed was good...Unless, of course, it's part of a "Decade of Greed (the 80's/Reagan era)".

The boomers have been the most spoiled rotten generation in history (not to belittle their stellar achievements, mind you, the majority of soldiers in Vietnam volunteered, apparently, of those hardy stock I am not referring);it has been likened demographically to a snake eating a watermelon.
The US has been subject to their every catered whim since they were born, esp. during their disastrous semi-permanent adolescent "don't trust anyone over thirty" embarrassments during the 1960's, not to mention Making the World Safe for LSD,leaf mulching, Tofu, and Rolfing.
Undoubtedly, they will go into the long night kicking and screaming the whole way. It won't be pretty.

If only they had embraced diversity - in their porfolios!Good one!

Yes, that is right. Remember when billy jeff passed a retroactive tax increase so that those who made the money in the 80's would finally have to pay their share.

Oh yes? And what about the lying? The 80s pale in comparison to the corruption and greed of the 90s.

Re #11
Add so-called 68 generation of Europe to this sorry pile. Together, they could bring down the entire western civilization. Their sins stretches over their entire generation, not just their youth. They could become a bonafide "black hole".

Now, now...no need to insult dogs.

The 90's stock market was a triumph of the gullible: If they sold in 2000.
