Hatfill Files Complaint on FBI Probe

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) - The biowarfare expert under scrutiny in the anthrax attacks declared, "I am not the anthrax killer," and lashed out Sunday against Attorney General John Ashcroft ( news - web sites) for calling him a "person of interest" in the investigation.
Dr. Stephen J. Hatfill said the FBI ( news - web sites) has agreed to his offer to provide blood and writing samples. He said he wants the results released and has offered to waive privacy rules to allow that.
For the second time in two weeks, the scientist went before a throng of reporters outside his lawyer's office to profess his innocence and decry the attention from law enforcers that he contends has destroyed his life.
Yeah, well.. he should go after the FBi hammer and thongs. And keeping in the public eye may well keep him alive, as well.
I've been given to understand that Barbara Hatch Rosenberg, the woman whose report is underpinning much of the witch-hunt against him, is actually an old girlfriend of his who has been after him for years. This could become real interesting and earn the bureau the kind of black eye it certainly doesn't need right now.
