In Georgia, McKinney Exploring Senate Run
Rep. Cynthia McKinney's (D-GA) campaign web site says she "is going through all the letters and e-mails asking her to continue the struggle, to run again, to run for the US Senate. Shortly, there will be an announcement." Meanwhile, Eleanor Clift says McKinney's recent primary loss suggests there is a new political third rail in American politics: "Supporting Muslim issues this campaign season could end many a political career."

I assume Zell Miller in a Dem Primary, assuming he decides to run again.
Against any other Dem, it would be an interesting race. But Zell doesn't need the black vote to win in GA anymore, and with GOP crossover, expect a blowout if such a matchup would occur...

So who would she run against?Max Cleland is up for reelection this fall, which leaves the man who she went up against over the Arab letter; the same man who donated to her opponent:
Zell Miller...

Run Cindy Run!!!
Run for the Senate as fast as you can. Run against Max Cleland, take votes from him, and help elect Saxby Chambliss the next Senator from Georgia.
I'm sure Zell Miller would rather have a republican as the other Georgia senator, than he would the "looney" Cynthia McKinney.

Against Zell Miller???? Is she crazy??? Oh wait...Cynthia McKinney...I just answered my own question.

It's probably already past the deadline, but wouldn't it be lovely if she got into the Cleland/Chambliss race as an independent? :-)

I can't imagine that she would recieve and Dem party money after such a loss. With the bad press she gets I think they are glad to be rid of her. She'll go indy and she'll lose.
To: mhking
Goody. She can fracture the Democrats.

Wait, is she trying to run THIS YEAR?
She can't get on the ballot as a Dem, and with GA's strict anti-third party rules, she would have to be a write in for 2002.

But Zell doesn't need the black vote to win in GA anymore, and with GOP crossover, expect a blowout if such a matchup would occur...Considering that Zell is arguably one of the most popular politicians in Georgia in a generation, as well, I'd have to agree, blowout notwithstanding.

So maybe this is meant to take Cleland down -- or at least to threaten to do so as some kind of blackmailing tactic? Can McKinney still mount a campaign for Cleland's seat this year?
To: mhking
After hearing her father's comments...Cynthia didn't fall far from the tree! I noticed while watching Sam/Cokie yesterday that not ONE of the commentators on the 'round table' segment decried McKinney's father's comments.

Can McKinney still mount a campaign for Cleland's seat this year?I doubt seriously that she could do it this year - there's not a snowball's chance that she could do anything serious as a write-in in the Cleland-Chambliss race, Zell is up what, next cycle? Cycle after? It would give her enough time to try to jump on Hitlary's coattails, if anything.
