Thanks for the ping. Reading these articles evokes such outrage and at the same time, relief. Monday while on the phone with my mom we discussed that it had been my nephew's first day of kindergarten that morning (my sister lives close to her, I'm a state away), and over the course of the conversation she said to me that she thanks the Lord that I am homeschooling my daughter (also 5). It brought tears to my eyes.

I know how much it means to have parental support. You can get along with just spousal support, but having parents support you is just so nice.
My mom wasn't big on the idea of homeschooling when I first got started. But anytime someone would bring it up around her, I would always say "I'm so lucky to have the support of my family." That would usually bring accolades for her (even though I really meant my husband (-;). She was made to look good for supporting us and now she does it in earnest. LOL!
I'm a tad manipulative, eh?

That is really touching.
Something I have noticed is that overall, even from parents with kids in ps, the response has been very positive about homeschooling. I think since attitudes seem to be changing from negative to positive, that eventually it will go one step further and we'll see more and more parents actually move from positive on homeschooling to actually doing it themselves. I think that trend has happened with mother providing infant care and I hope we'll see the same swing in homeschooling.
Question for you--did your child want to go to school? My daughter wants to go--she's almost k age, but I think she is really just curious about the school. I'm thinking of taking her to just the orientation next year so that she can see the inside of the school. I think it might be time to join a support group too so she can see and interact with other kids who are in families who have made the same choice.
