What the Press Said About the Democrat Sedate....Err, "Debate"
"Despite calls for specifics, they mostly stuck to generalities in their responses..." (Miami Herald 8/28/02)
"The Democrats largely agreed on most issues, though they often failed to provide details about how they would pay for such big-ticket proposals as reducing class sizes." (Times-Union 8/28/02)
"By the end, viewers learned little about them except that each is articulate, likes kids and seniors, and thinks Republican Gov. Jeb Bush has been a failure." (St. Petersburg Times 8/28/02)
"David Niven, an associate professor of political science at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, said Janet Reno, Bill McBride and Daryl Jones tended to reaffirm what each other was saying Tuesday and not put forth any new ideas. 'None of the three put forward a rationale as to why they are a superior candidate,' said Niven, who watched the debate on television at his home. 'These candidates restated their positions on issues they have already been talking about.'" (Associated Press 8/27/02)
"Reno gave no new details about her policy positions and failed to say how she would pay for increases in school and child-welfare programs, other than saying she would 'cut waste.'" (Sun-Sentinel 8/28/02)
"None of the three leading Democratic candidates for governor made his or her case in Tuesday's debate to Gerald Ferere. A retired linguistics professor from west of Boca Raton, Ferere remains undecided." (Sun-Sentinel 8/28/02)
"Only Jones, a state senator from Miami and a distant third in the race, seemed occasionally to seek to give listeners a reason to vote for him over the other candidates." (Tampa Tribune 8/28/02)
"For anyone who has seen the three major Democratic candidates for governor on the campaign trail, Tuesday night's televised debate offered little new." (Miami Herald 8/28/02)
"Jones was clearly more specific on the issues, showing his experience as the only one of the three to serve in state government." (Miami Herald 8/28/02)
"Pauline Blocher, a retiree from West Palm Beach, said she would continue to support Bush despite being a registered Democrat. 'There was nothing new. I didn't hear anything to change my mind,' Blocher said." (Associated Press 8/28/02)

I watched half of the debate. After that, I realized none of them actually knew anything about the state's reading and math tests (the "F-CAT"), or how these tests are actually used in this state. So, I tuned out.
For three candidates to know so little in a state where Education is the #1 issue for voters, it was a very lackluster performance. Any group of people can go on a stage and say "WE HATE JEB" -- but so what?
I think all three would be wiped off the map if they were given a short quiz on actual educational policies existing in FL. An "F" for each of them on education from this FL certified teacher. Also, FYI --
DEMOCRATS SCORE 0 for 10 in DEBATE

Hey, Summer! The Dems are pretty pathetic this year, huh! Go, Jeb, go! I hope I live ling enough to see Reno in pinstripes in the federal pen--between X-42 and S-98! Hope all is well with you in the land of sunshine.

Now I know they only one one "debate" - they already knew they could not bash Gov Bush in different debate three times. At some point, voters want to hear something else.

Our leading gubernatorial candidate (NH)-- Craig Benson-- has water bottles with his name, too. I think it's a great idea. He also has bubble bottles, too. The parents love them.

I meant: Now I know why they scheduled only one debate...

Craig isn't running for re-election like Jeb and he is worth about $300M so he doesn't need to raise money with clothing. I think the idea is great for someone like Jeb who has a cult of personality thing going for him.

I just saw a television commerical with the ambulance chaser...er, I mean distinguished attorney, Bill McBride. He claimed that Jeb has been running "dirty ads" about McBride because Jeb knows McBride is the demoncat that can cause Jeb trouble. He ends the commercial by challenging Jeb to a debate. lol
To: ItisaReligionofPeace
"LOL" is right. After McLawyer's poor performance last night, he should hope he NEVER has to debate Gov Bush, especially on Education! :)
