Historically all citizens are proud of the Empires they belonged to, to be a Roman Citizen gave you inaliable rights such as a right to a trial,the US has ,the rapidly becoming irrelevant, Bill of Rights and Constitution,and note all prior Republics ended up Dictatorships,then dissolve eventually into oblivion,thats the way the world works and then the way they treated the world returns to them,good or bad.
Abortion,prostitution,child sacrifice and idol worship all have caused judgements before.God with Israel wanted to start a moral and just people so they could be a strong nation state so his promises could be filled,the Law was not to create theocracy,despite enforcement even for the King, but to implant the concept of a superior force or entity to man,who was he God the creator of the Abrahamic covenent,deliverer from Egypt,giver of the Law to Moses and to convict man of his sin,so he tried to be moral and upright so that family units,judges and societal framework did not degenerate into the joke it is today and degerated to then after falling away on several occasions.Of the 2 original jewish nations,Judah and Israel,Israel was punished first by being captured it dissapeared completely and would be totally lost bar for the smart ones that migrated south to continue worship(tribe of Israel in Judah),their Kings were apostate from the start so they dissapear completely first,Judah who had a few 4 or so righteous Kings and kept the faith still did not avoid judgement,but a few good kings delayed Babylonian captivity their last leader postponed this till after his death,thats how big individual favours from God can be, but overall the long string of Clintons,Nixons,Lindon Johnsons etc got it to the point,judgement was irreversible,no sacrifice or atonement could stop it at a national level.
Im saying that the Old Testament is the slow revealing of who God the Father is over a 2000 year time period,of whom Jesus said I am nothing without him.If you don't know the Old testament you don't know God,now Im not one to sit in Judgement either of America, but I do know from past immutible,unchangeable principals of Gods nature that its sins are legion and no it won't escape when the time comes...which could be sooner than you'd like to think.
