To tell you the truth, I don't recall what their jobs were. I was a guest at an oil spill conference that my husband was attending. I always enjoy those conferences because I get to meet people from all over the world. These guys didn't speak English, though and needed another employee to translate.

I just remembered that I told the Russians that some people in the US suspected that Clinton's involvement in Kosovo was related to the oil pipeline that he wanted to build through the region. They said that it was true that a pipeline had been proposed but that they couldn't believe that would be the basis for the support of the Muslims in the region because it did not involve enough oil to justify what the US was doing there.

Do you remember when President Bush first met Putin, in Genoa? I watched the press conference live. One of the things President Bush talked about in the press conference was the problem in Chechnya. Putin had brought it up, in the context of terrorism. (This was also the press conference where Putin said he found the President to be a man of great intellect and understanding, causing the press to stand there with their mouths open.) Putin also had the letter Albright had sent to him practically insulting him for asking to talk about NATO membership.
I will bet Putin has LOTS of documentation on a variety of interesting subjects, this one among them.
