Sweden's links to radical Islam
Times Online ^ | Augustus 30 2002 | Roger Boyes

The man charged with attempting to hijack a Ryanair jet yesterday is Swedish born, but has Tunisian parents. Roger Boyes, charts the country's links to extreme Muslims.

The number of radical Muslims in Sweden has been growing rapidly because of the country's relatively liberal asylum laws, according to police reports.

Although few of al-Qaeda's European links lead to Scandinavia, Sweden is the home of one of the most virulent Islamic voices against Israel: the Moroccan-born Ahmed Rami.

Mr Rami received political asylum in Sweden in 1973 after claiming to have taken part in an unsuccessful military coup against King Hassan II of Morocco.

Since 1987, to the embarrassment of the Swedes, he has run Radio Islam and has become a firm fixture in the international far-right community.

He has taken part in conferences questioning the voracity of the Holocaust - including one "revisionist" forum organised by British historian David Irving - and maintains regular links with German and American neo-Nazis.

The Swedish authorities withdrew his radio licence for a year in 1990 after he was found guilty of broadcasting anti-Semitic and racist material.

A group of like-minded Muslim radicals has sprung up around Mr Rami but they are mainly long-term residents who have taken Swedish citizenship.

Police were unable today to say whether the suspected hijacker was part of Mr Rami's circle. Mr Rami tours Arab states on the lecture circuit; his main audience appears to be in Iran where he has delivered university talks on the Israel lobby and the Holocaust.

There are 250,000 Muslims living in Sweden - it ranks as the country's second largest organised religion after Protestantism - and many dissident groups operate on the fringes of religious communities.

Danish authorities have been concerned for some time about the Swedish Islamic community, Denmark has tightened its own immigration and asylum rules in order to filter Muslim refugees travelling between the two countries. Since most of the Muslims have Swedish citizenship however, there is little that can be done in terms of monitoring their movements.

"Sweden's links to radical Islam"

Replace that with "US links to radical Christianity" and you could talk about McVey. He was a Christian you know.

Yes, but his actions had nothing to do with Christianity.

"Yes, but his actions had nothing to do with Christianity."

As the 9/11 actions had nothing to do with the Muslim religion.

Make up your mind - that was reported by the liberal press - not ont the Liberal Press but by CNN - and all I read hear is:

a. Don't believe anything you read in the Liberal Press

b. Especially don't believe anything on CNN - now FOX is different

I don't believe he was an agnostic - as a matter of fact there was a preacher in his cell before he took the gas (thats a term of endearment for pro-death people)

""McVey. He was a Christian you know. ""

McVey is as Christian as Atta was a Muslim. In the biographies I've read say McVey was raised as a Catholic by his parents but rejected Christianity.

Atta had a lap dance the night before he left for the 9-11 disaster.

Yes, and lot's of christians were dancing in the streets to celebrate his actions. That former army puke ensured the death of not only himself but the end of the "militia" movement in the US. He in no way acted to defend or further christianity. The islamic whack jobs acted to further their religion. It is hiliarious and sad all at once when ever some idiot attempts to link oklahoma city with NYC and the pentagon. They do so in complete ignorance of the fact that the islamic whacko's started with the bombing of the Marines in lebanon.

"I've read say McVey was raised as a Catholic ...."

I know some who even believe that Catholicism could be lumped in their right along with Pentacostals and Baptits as a Christian religion -

I know for a fact it damn sur was during the last Crusades.

I have reflected on this statment and if this isn't reverse racism then I can't come up with a better example.

So if a white Swede is a suspect, in an act of terrorism, then he can be monitored BUT a dark skinned African cannot??? OK, open up the borders and let all the Muslims in and double up the police survailance on all the blondies because we need to be so, so sensitive to the not so white Swedes.

The west has lost!

Well I'll be damned -learn something every day - I always thought the first "islamic whacko" attack was during the 70's at the Olympic games - you might not remember that

or a little earlier than that there were rumors of atrocities during the Crusades.

As the 9/11 actions had nothing to do with the Muslim religion.

It had everything to do with the Muslim religion and the Jihadist scumbags it harbors. Not every Muslim makes Jihad but 70% of Muslims like what the Jihadists are up to and smile when the Jihadists make their terror against Israel, the USA, India, Serbia and so on.

Also every Muslim plays the game of Jihad via demographics, exploding birthrates. Your mad "prophet" Muhammed was the first Jihadist and killed many. While Jesus and Buddah killed none. What a contrast!

The actions of the PLO were not organizied to further a religion but the palestianian cause. The crusades, you mean the christian attempt to regain Jerusalem from the muslims, following the defeat of the muslims by a french army after the attempt to conguer all of europe following the successful conquest of spain. Want to bet the next crusades are more successful.

"during the last Crusades."

The Crusades were basically a holding maneuver to stop Islamic expansion. So if you look at the Crusades as a black mark against Christianity you need to look a lot deeper and ask some questions:

1. Since the Christians had access for over a millennium to the Holy Land and the Muslim expansion denied access to Christians is that really a war of aggression? I call it defense.
2. If Islam is so peaceful why have they killed so may in wars?
