He was given absolution for his acts - that is the tenet of the Catholic church - no moral equivalence here - just the simple proof that the man - regardless of his life and deeds - if sincere ( and I can't imagine anyone in his predicament not being) died a Christian and was forgiven for his crimes by his God -

Mohammed Atta is assured by his faith that he committed a RIGHTEOUS act in killing "infidels", and is guaranteed 72 virgins to defile at his whim in the hereafter as a reward. (And isn't it interesting that they consider this a Divine perk? Does that encourage or discourage defiling virgins down here on earth?)

There are HUGE differences in the civility, righteousness, tolerance, and global compatibility of these two religions.
