Cornell Republicans to Leftist Censor: "Go to Hell!"

Earlier this week, the Cornell undergraduate student body arrived on campus for another year of liberal indoctrination. Since the mid-1980s, the Cornell College Republicans and the Cornell Review have served as bulwarks against Leftist totalitarianism. On countless occasions over the years, each organization has had to stand up to threats and intimidation from fellow students, administrators, and faculty members. This academic year is turning out to be no different. On Sunday, August 25, 2002, members of the Cornell College Republicans advertised for the organization's upcoming meeting. One of the advertising methods was sidewalk chalking. I participated in the making of many of these chalkings; for instance, one said:

"FACTS: There are 23 professors in the government department; 21 are registered Democrats; 1 is an Independent; 1 is a Republican. FIGHT THE POWER! Join the College Republicans."

Another chalking had an American flag along with a quote made famous by President Bush (I personally wrote this one):

"You're either with us or you're with the terrorists."

Many, many liberals on Cornell's campus have sided with terrorism in the last year, arguing for appeasement of any and all terrorists around the world. We freedom-loving Americans are sick and tired of these elitist, prissy, pseudo-intellectuals siding with evil; hence, the College Republicans decided to bring that message home in our advertising.

As usual, Leftist fanatics could not handle it. Carla Frances Winston -- a Cornell sorority chick majoring in government and holding dual citizenship in the United States and Canada (eh?) -- wrote a letter to the Dean of Students demanding immediate censorship of the Cornell College Republicans:

"Next to the advertisement for the first meeting and a drawing of the US flag is the statement, 'You're either with us or with the terrorists'…I find this statement extremely offensive. This heavy-handed, black-and-white picture of the world fails to acknowledge the incredible diversity of opinions, complexity of interactions, and tolerance of others that exists in today's social and political life. It is also a blatant offense to the University's 'Open Doors, Open Hearts, and Open Minds' mission."

First, whether Ms. Winston finds the statement "extremely offensive," somewhat offensive, mildly offensive, or even sexually arousing is completely irrelevant to me. She is entitled to her opinion, but she is not entitled to silence her political opponents.

Second, the "heavy-handed, black-and-white picture of the world" is one endorsed by the President of the United States and supported by 90 percent of Americans. If Ms. Winston has been indoctrinated with the savage philosophy of moral relativism, then she is a fringe extremist. Again, she is entitled to her morally bankrupt opinion, but she is not entitled to silence her political opponents.

Third, Cornell University's "Open Doors, Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Wallets, Open Rectums" policy is a joke. It is a standard policy statement on diversity that endorses racial quotas and encourages whites to treat racial minorities like puppy dogs who are unable to handle conservative viewpoints without bursting into tears and hanging themselves. Fortunately, the policy also endorses freedom of speech thanks to the efforts of the one Republican professor in the government department, Dr. Jeremy Rabkin.

Regardless, Ms. Winston seems to be suggesting that President George W. Bush's words are in violation of Cornell University's diversity policy. Will the provost begin extradition proceedings to bring the president before a campus judicial hearing?

Ms. Winston continues in her letter:

This use of exclusion, belittlement, and fear tactics is unbecoming of a major political organization and should be immediately rectified.

Yes, I admit it. When I chalked President Bush's quote, I was indeed trying to exclude, belittle, and instill fear in the hearts of terrorist supporters. And something about Ms. Winston's hysteria makes me believe that I made my point.

In the last paragraph of Ms. Winston's letter to the Dean of Students, she offers:

"This statement provides an example of some of the worst traits of the Americans--indeed of human beings -- that your organization purports to speak for. It is precisely the kind of trait that provokes harsh reactions from the perceived "enemy," whether that enemy is a terrorist or an irate fellow citizen.

This is what the Ivy League is churning out, folks. Sorority girls who believe that we ought not even say anything harsh about terrorists (or terrorist sympathizers) lest they get angry. Ms. Winston cannot even bring herself to refer to al Qaeda or its supporters as the enemy without surrounding the word in quotations. This bizarre worldview implies that everyone is morally equivalent - innocent Jews and killer Nazis, innocent Christians and savage Chinese Communists, innocent Twin Towers' workers and al Qaeda. In her universe, we are all the "enemies."

Ms. Winston closes her letter with a demand:

In this case, the reaction [the statement] provokes is the demand of an immediate clarification and apology to the entire campus community.

Ms. Winston, I will never apologize. And I have a feeling that the Cornell College Republicans will never apologize either. When College Republican Chairman Ryan Horn was asked for comment, he told Cornell Review Online:

"She can go to hell. As part of our recruitment strategy, using a powerful quote by our President has worked beautifully. That is why we are by far the largest college conservative group in the State of New York."

Cornell's right-wing activists will support the United States of America in defeating terrorism at home and abroad. We will continue to proudly support our great President. If I were you, Ms. Winston, I would check your apartment for wiretaps. John Ashcroft seems to be at the top of his game lately.

And one more thing: If any member of the College Republicans is forced to appear before a single university official to explain anything about our advertising, we will see to it that Cornell University faces yet another public relations nightmare. After all, we have the Constitution and the President of the United States on our side.

I like seeing conservatives tell it like it is... "G to hell" seems to be appropriate...

Only one thing about this article bothered me, and that was: ...a Cornell sorority chick...

I mean, come on, everyone knows that broads really hate being referred to as chicks... ;0)

Sorority?

I thought the lefties were against aristocractic organizations. At least liberals were anti-sorority when I went to college. Has this changed?

Far as I know they only want the dictatorship of the proletariat with themselves as the dictators.

One would think that anyone who is a "dual citizen," would have the sense to keep his or her mouth shut on controversial issues in the lands to which he or she claims to offer exclusive loyalty. Or is exclusive loyalty no longer included in the concept of citizenship?

We need to put a stop to this idea of "dual citizenship," on general principles. This coed is obviously no serious intellect, and is no threat to anyone. On the other hand, that Cornell has created a climate, where she would even take her own rant seriously, is pathetic.

Is it petty to observe that the young leftist's letter is clumsy, poorly written, stilted, jargon-filled, and just plain silly, while the Rep's riposte is well written? Oh, and laceratingly funny?

Bump this...I love to read about conservatives standing up to, suing, facing down, going to battle with the liberal universities and their employees. This school year may produce a bumper crop. Yeah!

Oh, don't be silly. I'm sure the University censors anything the left prints that conservatives find "deeply offensive." Part of their Open Doors, Open Hearts and Open Minds policy. Right?

Oh, God, I can't even type that with a straight face.

Ah, isn't finding this statement "extremely offensive" heavy-handed and seeing the world in black-and-white? Isn't she committing the sin that see accuses our patriotic Cornell students?

She needs meds. If my daughter spouted this crap after attending college I'd withdraw all financial support and smack her.

Ah yes, to bad the Baseball strike turned out to be a no go. Humiliating liberals could have become the new national past time.

Well, at least we have a new school year at Cornell to enjoy. Hope they keep up the good work, I will be a very happy spectator.

Is there any chance that Ms. Wilson's email address has been published somewhere? I can think of a few Freepers (myself included) who would like to introduce her to a little diversity of opinion.
