FIVE brothers have now been charged in relation to a new series of gang rapes and sexual assaults committed against four young victims over six months in Sydney's west.
The arrests culminated this week with the charging of a sixth man, a friend of the brothers, over his alleged role in two different sexual assaults.
The arrests, by Strike Force Westward, relate to attacks on young women who were allegedly sexually assaulted in an Ashfield home between November last year and July this year.
Inquiries are continuing in relation to other victims.
These attacks are not related to the series of gang rapes committed in August, 2000, for which the ring
leader was recently jailed for a maximum 55 years.
The five brothers are aged between 16 and 23 years and cannot be identified because some are juveniles currently before the children's courts.
The 17-year-old girlfriend of one of the brothers has also been charged with conspiring to pervert the course of justice relating to false alibis for the night of one gang rape.
One of the brothers, a 23-year-old, was arrested at Melbourne international airport as he was about to board a flight to his native Pakistan.
Police allege in documents tendered to various courts where the brothers have appeared that the 23-year-old had dyed his hair and grown a goatee beard and that, in the days leading up to his arrest, was in constant mobile telephone contact with his brothers -- more than 80 phone calls in a seven-day period.
Court documents allege that one of the brothers told police in a three-page statement that he and his siblings were at his home on the night of July 27 and not at the home of the other siblings, where two teenage girls were allegedly gang raped.
As well, detectives have obtained phone records indicating one of the brothers was using his mobile phone in the city that evening, contrary to his alibi of being at home.
A search of the rented Ashfield home also uncovered videotapes depicting "a number of further potential child victims" who police are still trying to identify.
The incidents for which the men have been arrested include an aggravated indecent assault upon a 15-year-old schoolgirl on November 24 last year, an aggravated sexual assault in company upon a 13-year-old girl on July 14 this year and the gang rape of 16 and 17-year-old girls on July 27 this year.
According to court documents, the two victims had met the brothers previously and on this night agreed to visit the home.
It is alleged they were threatened with death and raped orally and vaginally.
It is alleged that when police raided the home two days later they found bullets, knives and condoms.

I would be very surprised therefore if there was a single Muslim girl among the victims. From the standpoint of these brothers, they committed not much of a sin.
Culture-enrichers? That's a good one. We live in the age of implosions. The Soviet Union has self-destructed, and the reason for that is understandable. It is harder to understand why the West, having proven the superiority of personal freedom and markets, is set to destroy itself also.
Culture-enrichers? Bringing in ethnic food and Persian rugs is not the same thing as, for instance, refining Dutch law, the ancient and proud institution of corporate enterprise, and tolerance and respect for democracy.
Will females ever learn? So many have been raped in the homes or apartments of men they hardly knew.
Although your general point about the import of religious ferver is well taken, I cannot agree with this attribution. The Soviet Union fell because its economy collapsed, and after a while it bacame clear even to the ruling party and the KGB that repressions and slogans would not revive it. In particular, this is what has become clear to Gorbachev (the ruling party member) and Chernenko (KGB, Gorbachev' mentor and backer). Due to these two factors, repressions were called off. Then MULTIPLE liberating sources, including the Church, came into play.
Your remark made the church look like the reason for the collaps. This is very far from the truth, with all due respect.
Yes, the West is under attack from within. That people from the East take advantage of that attack is another matter. But the primary force destroying us, and trashing the real quality of our lives--however many the material advantages available--is the Egalitarian mindset you identify.
The ideological pursuit of an undifferentiated humanity is no accident. It is not the creature of naive or stupid pseudo-intellectual "Liberals"--the 'dysrons' who endlessly spout its platitudes. It is the creature of a deliberate pursuit of a World Government by compulsive Socialists, who have never really concealed their goals. Conservatives need to stop shying away from the issues involved. There is nothing wrong with trying to preserve your heritage. That is the most important purpose for any social order.
