Liberals are always saying we will wind up like the Roman Empire, which would imply we are behaving just like the Roman Empire. This is not the case at all. The Romans invaded every nation weaker than them and set up military outposts to extract taxes from the local populace. As far as I can tell, our association with weaker nation is costing our taxpayers in international aid. Anyways, I'm sure some more informed Freepers can provide a better analysis of how the American way is vastly different for the Roman way.

Dont hate on the Romans. If our dominance can last for another 800 years or so I'll very pleased....dead, but very pleased.

Ive thought about this since studying Roman History in college. Most experts believe that the fall of Roman empire was do to several things. But mostly because the Roman army was spread out across the globe and eventually Rome was defenseless against northern invaders. Now think about our present situation....we're spread out all over the world, and we're slowly being invaded....by our neighbors from the south.

Not the same, I know, but you cant deny that American forces are spread incredibly thin and what would happen if lets say China decided to wage war upon us? Of course nobody believes they would...atleast not anytime soon, but if they did we'd be caught off guard and almost defenseless. But thats just my opinion.
