In war time, we need more than a "reluctant general" in there. Powell has shown himself to be a wuss, both during Desert Storm (he wouldn't go after Saddam), and in the current "war on terror."

Don't let the door hit you in the a$$ on the way out!

Hey, Colonel, sir, before responding any further read this:

Powell has been, throughout his career, a proponent of a strong national defense, an extensive military presence overseas and, more generally, a unique American role in the world. He supported the Star Wars program in the 1980s and resisted relaxing the ban on gays in the military in the 1990s. His spectacular military career took him steadily from officers training at City College of New York to four-star general. Yet as he readily acknowledges, most of the key steps in his separate, parallel rise through Washington's foreign policy establishment were in Republican administrations. He was introduced to future Republican leaders as a White House fellow under Richard Nixon, became national security adviser under Reagan and was named chairman of the Joint Chiefs under George H.W. Bush.

And this:

Yet over the years, the right wing has displayed some ambivalence about Powell. Frank Gaffney, a former Reagan administration official whose staunch pro-defense views put him at the far right of the political spectrum, recalls ruefully what happened when he agreed to argue against Powell's presidential candidacy on a 1995 television talk show about Powell's record on defense and foreign policy issues. Gaffney forgot to ask who would be on the pro-Powell side of the debate. When he arrived at the studio the next morning, he discovered his mentor, former boss and fellow hawk Richard Perle, glowering at him; Perle was there to defend Powell's record on national security.

I've met General Powell and you cannot ask for a finer example of a man or American in this country. Read the rest of the article here

Regards.

If it wasn't for all the A grades Powell received in ROTC at City College, he would have flunked out of college.

Collin graduated at the BOTTOM of his City College class with a 2.0 average.

This is what we know about Colin Powell:

He lobbied in 1990 to "punish" the Iraqi's invasion of Kuwait by enforcing an "embargo" instead of the wildly successful military action we took, then in turned lobbied to halt the logical step of removing Saddam from power upon that time; his position on abortion is that it's "not his decision to make" instead of standing up for innocent unborn human life; and he's pro 'affirmative action' which means he supports non-merited socialist doctrine which has nothing to do with qualifications...

Colin Powell may mean well (as all liberals do, LOL), but it is clear he is a delusional socialist who is actually ill-suited to lead ANY fight for liberty and freedom on behalf of the people of the America. In fact the opposite is true.

Post whatever you like in defense of Powell. His actions in the latest round of violence in Israel have trashed his whole career as far as I am concerned.

A true leader doesn't damn the offended party for taking military action to stop terrorism against it. This Powell did constantly during the last two years. His dim witted moral equivelances drove me crazy.

Once and for all, Israel was not the agressor nation, and it could not be trashed with comments like, "Until both sides stop the violence, we can't have peace." The fact is, Mr. Powell placed Israel on an even footing with comments like this. I'll never forget it.

If he didn't know any better than this, he's unfit to serve.

I have to agree, General Colin Powell has taken a lot of heat from us because of the way the media portrays him. Many say he was the reason why we didn't go to Baghdad and remove Saddam in 1991, But the fact is... we were operating under a U.N. Resolution and the mission was to liberate Kuwait, NOT overthrow Saddam Hussain.

Most of us who see the NYT's or some other liberal rag writing positive things about a person tend to dislike that person, Colin Powell has been used as a pawn by the liberals to paint this administration as being war mongers and right wing hawks by trying to manufacture a division between Powell and the President. NOBODY can post a quote that shows Powell standing against this President. Bottom line is Colin Powell is a great American who is being misrepresented and used by the media to sell newspapers and talk shows. General Norman Shwartzkoff (sp?) has a different opinion of Colin Powell than do most of us conservatives. Shwartzkoff shares your opinion of General Powell.

Cheers,

You must be easily impressed by famous and/or powerful people. His entire success is based entirely on him being a non-scary black soldier who was a benificiary of affirmative-action. If he had been a white officer,he would have been put out of the army after his first tour in Viet Nam,and never even promoted to Major.

BS!!.....Colin Powell has always been an advocate of "restraint" when innocent people are being maimed and killed. He enjoys what he believes to be outstanding rapport with his murdering psychotic muslim buddies. He's either a closet islamic jihadist or an imbecile in which case the jihadists are laughing their asses off at him. Judging from his performance since taking over at state, I'd guess the former. His departure is long overdue.
