And was the staffer fired if a staffer filled it out?

"All of those who think it would be better to elect Gay Davis than this man are out of their gourd. There is 1,000 miles of difference between the two men on family values issues."

So good, I just HAD to reprint it!

Thank you!!!

All of you who are 'disapponted' 'worried' 'fearful' are really starting to get on my nerves. The Gay Davis's of the world have really got your numbers. You can't wait to criticize a Republican while holding your fire on Governor Doofus.

Bill Simon is a good candidate. He's running a very difficult campaign against a media that hates him and a vicious opponent with tons of ill-gotten cash. And what do you people do but pile on him every day for every little thing, like marionettes with the media pulling your strings. It's sickening!

Why don't you try heeding Ronald Reagan's advice and not speak badly about a fellow Republican, particularly one engaged in such a difficult and IMPORTANT race. If you have to criticize anyone, let it be the crook in the governor's mansion. Lord knows, there's enough material. Get it together, folks, or you're looking at four more years of Grayouts.

Those were my thoughts as well.

I just love self-proclaimed "people of God" that have more pride than humility.

That says it all for me.

My point is that if its wrong when Rats talk out of both sides of their mouths, its doesn't make it right when a candidate who represents our side goes out and does the same thing. Simon has to decide what kind of Republican he is. As far as I'm concerned the entire incident has left a sour taste in my mouth and its made me even more convinced we can't afford politics as usual. We need a candidate who stands against cultural deviancy, not one who panders to it and gives the impression the government ought to be fostering it.

These are all fair, moral and excellent questions!

We all have a right to get to the bottom of this.

Either a great injustice was done to Bill Simon (for which I have some crow to sit down to feast on), or...we are getting told a story and lied and finessed to, which I don't think any of us take lightly. It would seem so easy to establish just what the hell went wrong.

Did the candidate goof? (Will he apologize and retract?)

Did a paid Simon staffer goof? (Will he/she be fired?)

Was Mr. Simon set up? (Will the culprit(s) be exposed or prosecuted?)

I couldn't agree with you more. The campaign needs to get to the bottom of this fiasco and fast.

I think it is important we stay on one topic in this thread: Bill Simon and his credibility (or that of his campaign associates).

Simply stated, was an injustice done to him, or is he finessing and being less than truthful (talking out of both sides of his mouth like Clinton did), and the injustice is being visited on us?

I'd like to know who the target of these wrongdoings are/were.

Don't you care to learn the truth, particularly if it were that Bill Simon was set up in rotten, nefarious slur using the homosexual activist issues?

Good point. Glad you did not go for the "so, who are YOU supporting?" tactic......

This thread can easily be bounced into the realm of "oh, cmon, so-and-so of the Third Party has no chance!" But that isnt the point!

The point is we are trying to established the concrete, objective truth about this Log Cabin homosexual rights questionnaire and it's mod-lib social answers purpotedly in reply by the Simon Campaign, because somewhere, someone is lying or not quite coming clean. And a lot of us don't take too kindly to that.

I for one hope Simon had been set up. So that we can go after the people who did that and turn it into a political negative for them due to their shoddy tactics. But it seems like no shortage of Simon supporters don't want to get to the bottom of that. Do they fear something?

I was going to reply to impeach98, then saw your post so I thought I'd reply to both of you at the same time.

Impeach has a point. There are many issues that Bill Simon can use against Gray Davis without mentioning the truly polarizing issues, such as gay rights initiatives. This is the land of fruits and nuts, after all ;-p The objective is to get rid of Gray Davis. Kalifornia is "so diversified" that, imho, Simon needs to stick to the issues that affect all of us. Issues like the electricity crisis, Metabolife (who cares if people get sick, just gimme the money), what's happening in the schools, Delaine Easton threatening homeschoolers (pagans homeschool their kids too, did you know that?), there's lots of issues he can flambe Davis with that many different groups will identify with. That's not attacking Simon, that's strategy...

Ok, what's up with that questionaire? I try and read the Simon threads, but this is the first time I've seen this.

I'm sure Bill Simon is a good guy and al, but, I myself have been trying to ask a SIMPLE QUESTION just as you have. That is: Did he or did he not fill out the questionnaire

How badly does it matter?

You know his opponent is a sleaze probably opposed to everything you believe in. Maybe Simon is a sleaze too, albeit it is doubtful that he is as bad as Davis. Or, maybe Simon is a finger-in-the-wind incompetent, but again it is doubtful that he is as bad as Davis.

I suspect there is a very good chance that Simon, who is a political novice, is being set up by Davis and the Democratic/media establishment which are anything but politicial novices.

Whatever Simon says about this matter is going to be spun by the California media to make him look bad. And the California media is going to be the source for a significant bit of even your info about this matter.

What I wonder about is why can't you assume the best, hold your nose and vote for Simon? It's a no lose situation. The worst that can happen is Davis getting voted out.

Dems have been holding their nose and voting for scum for years. Simon -- as the scum factor goes -- can't compare wtih Kennedy or Boxer or Clinton or Gore or Reno (who very might well win the Fla. primary.)

I'm sick of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

You did make some good points.

I do think eventually the whole truth will come out about the homosexual Log Cabin Club lobby questionnarie (candidate survey on political positions) that was reportedly answered by Mr. Simon or his camp. It shall be, needless to say, interesting.

OK...the guy deserves to be taken at his word. However, this means that there will be no further attempts by Simon to sell himself as a liberal.

Okay, here is the way Simon (or one of his staffer's) answered the question on the Log Cabin questionnaire

19. Would your administration issue Gay Pride Day proclamations as past administrations have done?

Yes, in June 2003 I will sign a proclamation declaring Gay Pride Day.

And here is what Simon (or one of his staffers) says in his letter to Senator Haynes (or one of his staffers):

I do not support a proclamation for Gay Pride Day.

Do you see the difference? In his (or his staffer's) response to the Log Cabin, Simon WILL(notice the future tense) proclaim Gay Pride Day but in his (or one of his staffer's) letter to Senator Haynes he says, I DO not support Gay Pride Day. He is speaking in the present tense.

So which is it Mr. Simon (or one of your staffers)?

What took so long? Damage has been done. How hard would it have been to issue a simple denial/clarification/press release before everyone left town for the long weekend?

And gee, with families out of town or at family gatherings over the long weekend, who would have noticed? It's probably better that he get this into the news cycle when people will see it.

Clearly there are too many single issue people out there that will crucify Simon out of their gullibility. They need to see this.

Personally, I could care less whether Simon lied to get the support of the Log Cabin Republicans and more moderate independents. What difference does it make if he doesnt plan on doing anything about it? Dont you realize that issues like abortion and gay rights are likely to never be resolved because its to both parties advantage to have them as campaign issues and to drive contributions. What really matters are economic and taxation issues. The rest is all posturing. Get real and vote for Simon.

Therein lies Simon's problem. Before he started kissing up to "moderates" he was in a dead heat with Gay Davis and in many polls he was even ahead. Now he's well behind. Great strategy.
