Get a case of 16 penny nails.

Drill out a old broom handle or thick dowel to accept the head of the nail for a bit of its length. If possible glue in a small nut that will fit and prevent the nail heads from eventually worming their way up the handle.

Put nail in broom handle hole, place against ground, poud in.

Salt the yard, woods, every where, especially by tree roots.
