Chirac says he has a passion for "green" issues and sees France having a special role in advancing the environmental cause. His detractors question his actual commitment, noting for example his decision in 1995 to hold nuclear tests in the Pacific Ah the good old days when French sabotage agents sank a Greenpeace protest ship while in a New Zealand harbour.

"What once was old is new again..." I'm still waiting to see the modern day version of the Boston Tea Party though. What form would it take? What would it take to get the leaders' attention and do we even have the stomach for that kind of rebellion any more? The men of that day were men of action. Today it seems we're all talk.
