Anyways, concentrating on Pakistan we observe this is an Islamic nation that is rife with subversive elements in a volatile political atmosphere, and furthermore is in possession of an array of atomic weapons. It has a government that took power through usurping the mantle by a coup de tat, and to make matters even worse Prez. Musharaff seems to be facing great pressure from Islamiacized radicals and his control seems to be questionable at best.
Moreover the Pakistani ISI service has been reported to have provided logistical assistance to the Taliban for years, and even worse has given al Queda itself valuable information. Pakistan was also one of the two countries to recognize the Taliban (the other was Saudi Arabia).
And the British Foreign Secretary said that Pakistan is the leading nation that poses a terrorist threat of magnitude. And some scenarios involve the ISI sneaking material (radoactive) to jehadis since some of the ISI members are quite 'questionable.' Musharaff is said to have little control over the goings on in the ISI.
Hence while we are going after Saddam (and we should since Saddam ...whether he has WMD or not ......is a killer of innocents and dangerous, and his threat needs to be negated). However while we are doing this should we also not defanging a nation that the Brits (and i believe MI6 is quite reliable) say that is the leading terrorist nation?
And why is Pakistan not in the 'Axis of Evil?' If North Korea is in that axis by all means Pakistan should be there. As i said i understand why the Saudis are not present (same reason why nothing happened to them even though 15 of the 19 hijackers were Saudi) , but Pakistan does not have any large oil reserves i know of. And if it is due to the 'help' they gave us in the Afghan war guarding the Kyber pass i do not think that qualifies! Chances are Osama (if he is alive) waltzed through Pakistani guards while they were 'looking the other way.'
And the Pakistani military folks can be quite fanatical. One (and i know i have repeated this statement several times) said that he would be willing to see the whole of Pakistan destroyed if he could just destroy one or two Indian cities! This was a Pakistani commander expressing his opinion that he would bear the thought of all major Pakistani cities being nuked by India if he could just nuke Bombay and Delhi!!!! What type of mentality is that?
Yet for some reason Pakistan managed to escape the 'Axis of Evil' when (apart from the Saudis) it is probably the most evil nation right now!
Someone know why they are not in the axis (unless it is due to the 'help' they gave us guarding the Pakistani/Afghanistan border)?
