I just heard the report on this on NPR. (No, it wasn't my radio; it's a co-worker's.) The important aspect of the story, in their eyes, was that there was no evidence at the fire's origin that any animals were harmed.

On a related note, I was wondering if NPR has a request line. It would be fun to FReep them with calls asking that they play more Toby Keith.

Dude, I don't doubt this report at all.

I took my girlfriend to visit a pal of hers during spring break '89 to Cabazon CA--just outside Palm Springs near Banning. It is the creepiest place on earth. It's just a big trailer-park really and during the day it was hot and dusty and not a thing in the streets was moving and most of the houses had tinfoil over the windows to keep the sun out.

The pal said "Yeah, everybody here works in Palm Springs--and it's a pretty nice place except for all the satanists..." She went on: "I think it's time for some spring ritual right now, maybe you'll see some." I'll take you to a place they do rituals.

She drove us out into the desert where there was like a big log 'totem' of a fanged, winged demon in the middle of a burned patch of ground.

Later that night, we saw a trail of torches going up the side of the mountains near there like a glowworm.

Kalifornia Kreepy I tell you....
