Good story and boy, ain't that the truth. My parents lived in Atlanta at the time of his Presidency and Georgians were tickled that one of their own (particularly a cracker) was President, but no one could point to what he had done in Georgia to warrant it.

The only good thing I can recall about the Carter era was that for about the first 3 months, it was cool to be from Georgia... that sure faded fast!

Another true story- my late first wife & I were staying at the Atlanta American on election night, and that was also Carter's headquarters... we were coming back from the Merchandise Mart, and the first word we heard about the election was passing a couple of Carter's aids in the lobby, one saying,

"Oh, well, I guess this isn't so bad- at least bribes will be back in style..."

The Dems were petty & bitter even then!
