[history]
A message to Detroit cops: Stand and salute your mayor.
A police memo read at roll calls this week said officers on the mayor's security detail are falling down on the job when it comes to saluting hizzoner.
"Effective immediately," the memo, from 6th (Plymouth) Precinct Insp. Oscar Dixon, says, "all members assigned to the security detail at the mayor's residence, upon seeing mayor Kilpatrick exit his home or vehicle shall get out of their patrol vehicle with your hat on and render a hand salute."

Suffering from inflated ego and self important bozo syndrom.
What a way to endear yourself to your police force.
This dumbass must have gone to the same school of polotical respect that hitlery did. In other words, disrespect for your police.

He ought to salute them for protecting his sorry a**.

When I am moving form building to vehicle, the last thing I would want my security detail doing is facing me and delivering a salute. If the cops don't have anything better to do than turn their backs on whatever threat there might be, why are they there?

I think this is a passing fancy on the part of the big diamond stud in the ear mayor. WJR featured soundbites from Detroit citizens yesterday that indicated that they aren't in favor of saluting the mayor. After Coolman Young and his spineless successor Dennis Archer got done with the Detroit Mayor's office, what's the point?
