Don't Mess With Texas [Judge Priscilla Owen Mugging by democRATs]

Edited on 04/22/2004 11:47:03 PM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

Appellate court nominee Priscilla Owen went down to defeat yesterday in the Senate Judiciary Committee, 10-9, as Democrats bowed once again to liberal feminist interest groups.

The 10 liberals refused even to send her nomination to the Senate floor, where Democratic moderates would have voted to confirm her. They may be smiling now, but come November watch for a different expression on their faces. On Election Day they may find that the price of yesterday's victory will be a Democratic Senate seat in Judge Owen's home state of Texas.

If Mr. Cornyn's election means that Republicans regain Senate control, then President Bush would certainly renominate her. Texas voters would get the judge they want, and Senate liberals the justice they deserve.

Ahhhhhhhh winning is such sweet revenge.

Lots of ifs here. If New Jersey, Missouri, Texas, and North Carolina all go the Republicans way, would we have enough in the Senate to take control? Any other states I am missing?

I watched some of the hearing on C-SPAN last night and it all boiled down to Chuckie Schuemer saying the White House was to blame for the Owens nomination getting blocked in the Judiciary committee because her ideology and politics were not "in the mainstream" or "moderate" enough for the federal bench. He said her politics were "out there on the far right".

Therefore, democrats are saying the White House should not submit nominees with unamimously "well qualified" ABA ratings but should recommend less qualified liberal judges.

Judge Owen must get on the campaign trail and proclaim all across the great state of Texas that the Senate must be Republican to eliminate the leftist influence in America.

Well if anybody knows what the mainstream is, it has to be Schumer.

If Texas, Arkansas, and North Carolina all stay republican and Just one of the Close contests in either NJ,MN,MO orSD go our way, we take the senate back! Georgia and Iowa are probabilities, and Montana is still up for grabs.

The Democrats are so shortsighted! They fear any infringement on abortion more than they fear losing more Democrat voters.

DONT MESS WITH TEXAS

This comment is old, but very true:

It goes something like this:

I always thought Chuck Schumer was intelligent.........until he opened his mouth and spoke.

Far too many of the Democrats have the same attributes.

Mr. Kirk was running ahead in the polls for a while. But the latest survey, out this week from Democratic pollsters Anzalone-Liszt, finds Mr. Cornyn edging ahead, 45% to 39%

Coop - was this one of the ones you had? Interesting that it was done by a Democratic pollster. I thought the others I had seen were all media polls.

Priscilla Owen is Supreme Court caliber...it wouldn't be good for her to get involved in open politicking. There are plenty of others who can make the case.

Ralph Neas pulls the strings and the 'Rat Senators are his puppets.

If New Jersey, Missouri, Texas, and North Carolina all go the Republicans way, would we have enough in the Senate to take control?

Arkansas--dead heat. Methinks that the Democrats will put personal spite over tactical sense and get Hutchinson canned--but spend so much money to do it that they lose the four states you name.

New Hampshire: If Sununu wins the primary, Shaheen has a much tougher job. If Smith wins, the seat goes Democrat.

New Jersey: Forget Richard Nixon's "I am not a crook." The Torch sez: "Sure, I'm a crook, but I'm not going to starve Grandma, destroy the environment, and take children's food out of their mouths while they're still chewing it." Dunno if the electorate is going to buy it.

Missouri: Jean Carnahan got elected because Mel Carnahan died. Then Missouri found out that Jean Carnahan was dead, too--or at least acted like she was.

Missouri: Jean Carnahan got elected because Mel Carnahan died.

Correction: The dead Mel got elected, the widder carnahan got appointed.

Missouri, where the dead get elected by the dead.

Any other states I am missing?

Georgia. Max Cleland (incumbent Dim) is up against Saxby Chambliss (R).

My mistake.

But the fundamental truth still applies--the widder might as well be a stiff, too.

Looks like the Democrats shot themselves in the foot on this one. Let's make sure we don't do the same.

Hopefully it will become painfully obvious to all when she debates Talent.

South Dakota, Minnesota, and Georgia.

Don't forget possibly vulnerable GOP incumbents in Arkansas, and hopefully Sununu can ice a win in New Hampshire by winning the primary Tuesday.
