For the second straight year, California's crime rate rose slightly in 2001, pushed by jumps in vehicle thefts and homicides, Attorney General Bill Lockyer reported Thursday.
Crime rose 3.7 percent in the Golden State between 2000 and 2001, according to Lockyer's report, "Crime and Delinquency in California 2001." The trend in the Bay Area was largely the same, with most counties seeing crime inch up last year.
