I was a Senior at Heidelberg High School in 1972. Four people lost their lives in that bombing.

Thanks for the find OEB.
This ping is for the rest of you. Fortunately this guy is a minority in Turkey!

I'm still trying to figure out why a woman would marry a jerk whose opinion of women is that they are livestock, somewhat higher than dogs. Talk to Hillary - she might have an answer for you.
She is one of those rare examples where the jerk's opinion is entirely correct...

His 23-year-old fiancee worked at a supermarket at a U.S. installation in HeidelbergWonder what the "fiancee"'s nationality is. Turkish too?
I once worked in a British installation in Germany. At that time, 30 years ago, they were concerned about terror attacks, mainly from the IRA.
While I was there they employed only English and Americans -- no Turkish 'Gastarbeiter,' who were plentiful in the area.

I wonder why a woman with dual American and German citizenship would be willing to take part in this kind of plot. My guesses are:
A) Cast-off daughter of a GI
B) Camp-follower former spouse of a GI who got married in order to get her permanent pass to the land of the big PX, then dumped him.
Call me cynical, but I saw plenty of examples of both when I was there in the 1980s.

and the man's fiancee, an employee of the U.S. military
I am in total agreement with the importance of your question. In addition, I'm very curious about the TRUE nationality of terrorists who are supposedly "Swedish" or "British" ... Oddly enough, the answer never seems to surprise me.

Wasn't the Greenie Petra Kelly the daughter of an American military man?

What an interesting coincidence -
this thread discussed a Turk living in Germany who wanted to name his baby "Osama bin Ladin."

The Cold War is over, the Soviet Union is long gone, and it's high time we pulled troops out of Germany and stationed them in areas of strategic relavence. Europe is a dead continent.

>> I think this is the first mention I've seen of a Turk belonging to al Qaeda.
We've got plenty of crazies who escaped and received asylum in Europe where they would no longer suffer under a regime which restricts their "freedom of religion." ....
Wake up call for the Europeans? Probably not yet...

I am an American living in Munich and I got some news from another website that the woman is also a Turkish native but she became a US citizen (probably under Clinton!). I am not sure if this news is accurate but I thought I would go ahead and post the "buzz" on this.
Also, I would like to point out -- in reference to other posters' comments -- most of the Turks in Germany tend toward the fundamentalist Muslim or Leftist side of the spectrum. The average Turkish woman I see here is always in a veil, trailing several feet behind her boyfriend or husband.

They're the ones that caused this. They have been harbouring Islamic fundametalists and have been supporting their infiltration into the Turkish minority. They have let groups to be formed which openly conspire against the secular Turkish government with the intent of establisihing an Islamic state in Turkey. Their leaders have been wanted by the Turkish government for years and were facing capital punishment for treachery but the German hypocrates have refused to extradite them. They see Islamic fundamentalism as a basic human right.

There were indications an attack was planned for Sept. 11, but he would not elaborate. "We suspect that they intended to mount a bomb attack against military installations and the city of Heidelberg," Thomas Schauble, the chief law enforcement officer for Baden-Wuerttemberg state, told reporters.
Schauble said the man was a strict Muslim "who hates Americans and Jews."

It's called forward bases.. extending our reach all over the world... Europe is already set up and provides great access to hot zones we could need to be at in a flash.

I wonder how many more of these are planned for 9-11....stay safe. Well, we don't have long to wait to find out, do we?

How is it that this "strict muslim" allows his fiancee to work? She is just some infidel that he was using for his own ends, and likely his pleasure too. The "Fiancee" part likely wouldn't have lasted beyond the bomb blasts.

Yes, I suppose you're right about that. I swear there are women who would fall for the devil himself. Oh wait, I guess in a manner of speaking, she did.....
