You are right, but I think conservatives need to make a strong case and not rely on common sense of Americans when it is tainted by the liberal press. For instance:

On the abortion issue: Stressing opposition to partial birth abortion and opposition to allowing strangers to take your daughter or grandaughter across the state line to have an abortion without your knowledge.

On the prescription drug issue: Stress the need for a PERMANENT prescription drug plan for those seniors who need it most. Under the Democrats' plan, the prescription drug plan would expire in 2010 and so poorly written, your tax dollars would go to even Bill Gates and Ross Perot for their prescription drugs.

On Social Security reform: If nothing is done, as the majority of Democrats would like, the Social Security system would go broke in 2038 according to the latest government statistics. By that year, it would cost an ADDITIONAL $330 billion in taxes just to pay benefits -- the equivalent of the entire defense budget for this year. It is a matter of basic arithmetic and basic planning to do something now.

On Tax Cuts: If, as most Democrats believe, finishing the Bush tax cut is such a bad idea, why not retroactively recind the Bush tax cut Americans already received? It's because the Bush tax cut is the only thing we had to stop the recession created by the previous administration.

Democrats are on the wrong side of these issues. Because the press is not doing it's job, it's our responsibility to explain to the American public why.

My point is that you can't win something with nothing. As a candidate -- YOU MUST RESPOND. You can't just dismiss their argument, no matter how wrong it is. The public needs to hear you take a stand. Silence is affirmation.
