Exactly my opinion! Where is the outrage of the 'good' Muslims? Isn't their virtual silence on these supposed "fringe extremist" sects doing evil under the name of their religion a tacit approval?

Well, some of them are scared to stick their necks out and become targets of hee-yaws and sociopaths - especially the yee-haws and sociopaths (and their followers) who are going to be attending this conference.
As for others, I get the sense they don't want to pre-empt God. God alone judges, and its not up to the rank and file to condemn others for their religious presumption. Leaders and leading Imams might have the clout to do it, but if you're Joe Average Muslim you just shut up and let God deal with it. They'll talk about it and condemn it privately, but getting them up on a soapbox is really hard - some of them really do think a lightning bolt is going to smite them.
And therein lies the problem: timid mediocrity is ruling the masses while the truly radical get away scott free.
